COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

A great version of a english brown ale. Rustic brown in color with little lace. Aromas of toffee, nuttiness, and light hints of chocolate and floral hops. medium light body with a nutty malty taste and a big balance of hops that gives this beer a dry finish. Great with BBQ.

Look: pours a dark brown. Light brown sugar head. Very clear. Thin lacing. Smell: sweet malts. Caramel. Malt heavy. Grassy. Taste: sweet malt. Caramel. Molasses. Grassy. Feel: nicely balanced beer. Smooth easy start to the sip then a hint of bitterness on the finish at the end. Sweetness is slightly more than the bitterness. Overall: like this beer. Not normally a brown ale fan, but this is good. First drank: home 1/10/15 Vintage: 2014

Not a bad brown, lots of nuts. Smells like macadamia nuts. Taste is very creamy, with more nuts and a bit of vanilla. Had in the bottle.

Pours a clear dark garnet/brown with a robust light tan head. Aroma is mocha and spice. Taste is sweet roasted malt, caramel, coffee and crackers. A true brown ale.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. The beer was a dark red color with a strong malt aroma. Had a mild hop bitterness with a thick palate

Tap: brown with red tints and a small off white head. British malt aroma with a malty flavor and a small bite at the end. Not bad, average solid brown ale.

Overall decent. A lack of stand out flavors keeps it from being really good though.

Pours cola-black with a persistent tan head. Not much on the nose, the palate has chocolate and some roasted malt but not depth of flavor. The high CO2 level overwhelms the flavors. Overall, a good session brown but not a terrific single drinker.

Malty, nutty aroma. Flavor starts slightly sweet and nutty, with coffee and chocolate. Finish was bitter, smoky, and frankly pretty harsh for what otherwise would have been a very enjoyable brown ale. Good, but not great.

UPDATED: NOV 26, 2014 Nose of caramel and yeast. This has all the flavor characteristics of a classic porter only lighter; chocolate, coffee, nuts, etc. on a nice malt base. It’s very refreshing with good carbonation and balance. Not earth shattering but very enjoyable.
