Guinness4Duff (457), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown pour with a thick beige head. Roasted malt aroma with a strong earthy hop presence. Alot of sweet flavors up front with chocolate, coffee, and earthy hop tastes standing out.
ajm (304), USA Aug 14, 2008 A pretty complex beer, but an odd flavor. To be fair, I may have had it a bit too cold. Aroma is not much to speak of, flavor is nice (not quite as smooth as HazelNut) with a vanilla opening into light nuttiness into a barky coffee-but-mostly-charcoal finish. Found it a bit too grainy at the end, a bit too sharp. Wish the flavor didn’t drop from middle to finish quite so quickly. RIP, Ellie! 1_2many (194), Ohio, USA Aug 12, 2008 Bottle. Dark rust color with a small head. Aroma of caramel and some earthy hops which are very subtle. Flavor is mostly sweet offset slightly by some bittering hops. Pretty smooth and easily drinkable with moderate carbonation. Not a bad brew but completely uninteresting in every way possible. texasbartender (151), Sugarland, Texas, USA Aug 10, 2008 The beer pours a light amber brown with thick off white head. The nose is full of nuts and roasted malts with some caramel added at the end. The taste is caramel roasted malts, nuts, light woodiness, vanilla and a slight creaminess. The mouth feel is clean and the finish is nice and medium bodied. jake65 (1216), Meridian, Idaho, USA Aug 2, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark chestnut brown with a small tan head and nice lacing. Roasty and malty notes in the aroma, as well as some nuttiness. Tastes rich and smooth, chocolate, roasty, nuts. A bit of toffee and caramel as well. Nice brown ale; the best one I’ve had in a while. timsilvia32 (183), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 30, 2008 Solid brown pour, surprisingly sturdy cream colored head. Smells of light roast malt and nut. Very slight chocolate, otherwise nice molasses and roasted malts. Just enough hop bitterness. Drinkable for sure. Pretty darn good.
