COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

Perfect chestnut brown with a glimmer of orange highlighting the edges and bottom. Keeps a compact medium stacked foam of dark sandy brown. Fades out to a slim collaring and broken skim. Lacing is stringy and sporatically placed as so. Aroma is soft and delicate with cocoa powder and some hazelnut notes. Taste is profoundly steeped in a cocoa powder presense thats fairly well rounded in a milky chocolateyness with small notes of vanilla, brown sugar, and hazelnut. There’s a light berry-like backing underneath mixing with some caramel and the finish is fluffy, lasting, and rich and whisped with a unbittered leafy hopping. A very nice tasting brown. Lots of character and length. Feel is a bit over medium in body with a smooth, full carbonation holding chocolate malt on the palate for a good while and keeping delicate soft characteristics the whole ride through. A very solid and sessionable/drinkable brown ale. Another Avery keeper. On a style choice note: this seemed much more like an American Brown then an English Brown. But what the hell do I care, its damn good either way you put it.

Draft. Dark red with a nice tight head. Light toffee, milk chocolate caramel, cashew butter, pink peppercorns. Nicely blended malt flavors. Medium body. Slightly sweet but finishes dry. Very good.

Keg - RC Brewfest. Rich, earthy aroma, very dark in the glass with a sturdy head of foam. Rich, malty taste with a strong hint of chocolate and a bit of coffee. Smooth, full taste in the mouth with a very nice aftertaste. Very good beer!

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a near clear brown with decent head. Nice malty hop aroma a touch of choc and coffee. Medium light body, rich malts and a decent bitterness and hop flavour. Finishes semi dry. Nice easy drinking brown.

Can. Only bought this can to share with my brown lab, but landed up drinking the whole thing. Not really a brown ale fan and my only point of reference is Newcastle. It has a similar nose in that to me it smells metallic and sweet caramel. Fruit and bread flavor, miss the hops. Only took 4 sips to deny my poor lab a cold sip.

Can (12 oz.) from Brass Tap Trinity. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a medium tan head. Aroma has a roasted, nutty sense with a hint of pipe tobacco. Flavor is nice with a rich maltiness without being overly sweet. A tasty brown. Nicely done Avery.

12oz can courtesy of stumpyiliz. Cheers, Aaron! Pours dark cola brown with a tan head. Nose is tobacco, some toasted malts, and brown sugar with hints of bitterness. Flavor is cocoa and tobacco up front, burnt sugar in the mid and earthy bitterness in the finish. Medium in body and a nice brown overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A nice brown color. Taste is a pretty basic malty/nutty brown ale. Very drinkable and enjoyable, but nothing to go wild over.

Well made brown ale. Deep mahogany with a thin off white head. High carbonation. Nuts and a little banana on the nose. Semi-sweet palate with more nutty flavors. Medium finish. Solid beer.
