This beautiful, deep russet brew has the sweet and somewhat nutty character of Adam Avery's late (1992-2002) Chocolate Lab, for which it is named. Crystal and chocolate malts give this beer a brown sugar maltiness with hints of vanilla and nuts, while subtle hopping gives it an overall drinkability that's second to none, just like Ellie!

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a medium brown in color with a small (1 finger or less) foamy light brown head that was mostly diminishing and left behind very light lacing. The aroma was of roasted malts, a piney hop and a nice doughy yeast scent. It also had notes of coffee, vanilla and a bit of nuttiness. It tasted bitter-sweet at first with a hint of roasted coffee and finished slightly malty with notes of vanilla and a nice nuttiness at the end. The flavor stayed with you for a enjoyable duration. Mouthfeel was creamy yet oily in texture and medium in body and had a moderate carbonation. Overall a nice bold tasting brown ale, typical of the style. Smooth, creamy and easy to drink.

Malt aroma, light dark fruits. Taste is malted chocolate, faint toffee. A cola and vanilla finish comes through.

Draught at Faucets. Roasted malt, cocoa, nuts, floral notes, dry finish. Decent stuff without being any outstanding.

Aroma is molasses and a hint of wood smoke. Taste is mainly molasses, a little hint of nuts, and something else I canít quite place. This would be great in the fall, but itís pretty damn good right now too.

Brown pour, quick tan head. Nutty malt in the nose. Bittersweet. Middle is coffee and chocolate, roasted malt, some cherries hiding in there. Finish dries with a hint of hops at the tail. Solid American brown.

Pours a translucent copper brown from the can with thin ring of tan head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of nutty earth and hints of dark chocolate. Taste follows, clean and easy, lingering soy quality. Nice for the style, just not exciting.

Pour from 12oz bottle. Dark brown with thin cream colored head. Smell of chocolate coffee and alcohol. Palate smooth and light with nice flavor and finish. No real bitter end.

One of six beers on a flight at Bru Grill and Market, Lake Forest, Orange County on 21st May 2015. Chestnut red, no head. Malty, sweet and nutty in nature: my sweet tooth liked it a lot. A lot sweeter than any UK brewed Brown Ales I have had, but thatís OK and I enjoyed this.

One of the beers that turned me on to brown ales. Perhaps my favorite brown ale at this point, and I like brown ales.

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle. A dark brown ale. Thin tan head. Slight malt aroma. The taste is the highlight. Light on the chocolate, vanilla, almond, a little bit of an earthy flavor. Slightly sweet, nice full mouthfeel. One of my favorite brown ales ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
