COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
1st release in our new Tap Room Only series. Eremita I is a strong sour ale blended on 5/11/2011 from three different barrel-aged projects and ten different red wine barrels (Cabernet and Zinfandel). The oldest project has been in the barrels for over two years and the youngest is almost exactly a year old. The overall blend is around 9.5% abv, a moderate lactic acid bite with a hint of acetic acid flavor, and some mild farmhouse funk that melds well with the red wine aroma.

On tap for the GABF Tappings at the Avery Tap Room on September 28, 2011. Dark orange pour with a slight off-white head. Tart, slightly funky aroma. Beautiful sour flavor with notes of zinfandel and lemon. Finishes clean with no evidence of alcohol. Just a touch of vanilla on the finish. A wonderful sour from Avery.

ROGUE (1360) - Newark, Delaware, USA - JAN 10, 2012
On tap at Avery taproom (GABF 2011). Pours a deep hazy copper color with a creamy two finger whitish head that has excellent retention and slowly fades to a cap. Tart on the nose, with aromas of barnyard funk, oak and caramel. Initial tart flavor that is not overly sour, followed by toasted oak, vanilla and vinous dark fruit. Hints of grape, sour dark cherry and a lingering light vinegary finish. Full bodied with a slight creamy texture.

On tap at Avery. Pours with a hazed deep mahogany hue with a lasting off-white head. Aromas are big and boozy, vinous, sour, cherry, unripe plums, lots of red wine and light pepper. Flavors are a bit sweet, some bretty funk, nectarine, tropical fruit, cherry, pear, red wine, vinous. Lively bubbles. A bit of acetic. Very nice.

Incredible funk-fruit-winey-woody aroma. Amber in color with nice white head. Winey-woody with a tart funk...super complex.

Draft @ taproom. Hazy burgundy. Nice cap. Vineous character is sherry-like. Nice sweet, juicy body. Maybe it’s too sweet but it’s mellow. Higher level of acetic acid than expected. Balsamic. Has a wine vinegar character that is not altogether inoffensive, but is too simple to be yummy.

Muddy bronze. Accents of brett, wood and some light fruitiness on the nose. Quite sour with light fruitiness on the palate. A little bit of bitterness late. Interesting beer.

draft. medium acid, lightly fruity and phenolic and waxy. bit fatty across the middle with spritzy and effervescent acid and carbonation. pretty similar to most other avery sour blends: fruity, waxy, oak-heavy with moderately dirty phenols.

Hazy amber - nose is of moderate oak and quite a bit of the wine character - lightly tart lacto and a hint of background acetic notes - round and full in the mouth - quite a bit of wine here too, a bit more of the zin than the cab - alcohol completely masked - more acidic than funky, with a bit too much acetic character for me, especially in the finish - a bit vinegary on the tail end - a decent sour.
