This third iteration of Eremita is strong and dark with rich malt complexity, an earthy yeast profile, and mouth-puckering sour bite. A sultry blend from twelve Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, Eremita III is comprised of ales from five different creations in the Avery Barrel Aging Cellar. Ranging from a blonde saison to a black saison to a strong Belgian amber ale, they spent between 9 months to over 3 years in their respective barrels. Eremita III is a sour ale without the training wheels.

On draft at Avery. Very sour, winey, and complex. Red wine, grains, and port. Made from a blend of 5 ales aged in Cabernet barrels. Sourheads will probably love it.

Taster at the Avery taproom. Pours a hazy dark brown with an off white head. Dark fruit, red wine, oak and light funk on the nose. Med body with lots of oak, vinous notes, lactic acid, dark fruits and some lingering acetic acid. Tart finish with dark fruits and lactic acid. Great as usual!

On tap at the brewery at the 23rd Anniversary Party. Clear, dark brown, with a small, creamy, beige head. Brown sugar, black cherries, lemon zest, black pepper, and molasses. Sweet and very tart. Medium body, smooth, lightly acidic. This is a very smooth and easy sour. Seems to have aged well.

Dark magenta with brown tones. Nice funk, wood, with red wine and cherry on the nose. Fairly sour and puckering but well balanced and well integrated alcohol. Reminds me of the Immitis.

Tap at Avery. Pours a dark, murky red brown with very fine khaki head. Great retention, especially for the style, some thin lacing. Aroma is tart, lactic, oaky, strong vinous, and cherry. Flavor is tart/acidic, oaky, vinous, mild stone fruit, with a tart, mildly oaky aftertaste. Looks darker than it tastes. Becomes fruitier as it warms. Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, and a dry finish. A tasty, fruity sour ale.

A great sour with lots of raisin, plum, and dark fruit flavors. A great beer that I could enjoy regularly

From tap at the Avery taproom. Dark mahogany with an off white head. The barrels are evident on the nose and I frankly couldn’t get enough of it. Medium bodied with balsamico and tart berries, endless finish.

On tap at Avery. Cloudy and brown with a thin head. Smells like a barrel room at a winery. Medium to full bodied with a real nice palate even with the significant sourness. Tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice tart punch with sweet taste. Very carbonated and pleasant mouthfeel. Pours a ruby amber hue with little head. Delicious.

Poured a brown hue with moderate head. Smells incredibly earthy with a bit of ammonia. Tastes a little of cherry before the sourness blows away your palate. Delicious sour, wish I could get this in California.
