Glouglouburp (2573), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 3, 2009 In short: A weird sweet and floral wild blond ale of some kind. An original and intriguing beer. More intriguing than good.
How: Bottle 220z. Consumed when around 1 year old.
The look: Partly cloudy yellow blonde body topped by very small white head
In long: Nose of wild flowers (dandelions and such) and a little barnyard. The taste is weird. Dry hay/straw, a lot of flower juice, a lot of band-aid, a little bit of perfume, a little brett presence, lemon grass, bleach (no kidding), green apples, white pepper. Very crisp. Medium tartness Carbonation is sharp with a lot of small bubbles. There is still some residual sugar in this bottle and now that the beer is one year old I don’t think the brett is going to dry it out anymore. Too bad. A little alcohol presence, and the beer is below 8%!. I was able to drink a full bomber but more because I was intrigued by the beer than anything else. Like oral sex from a quadriplegic toothless midget it is intriguing and offers new sensations and you need to try it once even if it is not really good.

pours clear with almost no head. the funk hits along with spice and herbal notes.pepper, soapiness and faint fig on the tongue with light carbonation. better then when i had it fresh. will re-rate when i have it on tap. Ungstrup (13384), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 27, 2009 Draft. A golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is swet with strong notes of fruit and medum notes of malt. The flavor is very tart - with notes of wine, as well as fruits and malt. riversideAK (2364), Shoreline, Washington, USA Jun 26, 2009 hazy golden big head. Big bubbles. Good amount of brett on the nose. Light spice maybe some tart fruit. Some brett funk w some grain then an odd mild sweetness. Metallic. Kind of funky not a lot else going on. Its cool but not that interesting. 502Flavors (506), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 22, 2009 Bomber (Bottled April 2008 -- 1 year and 2 months old) into snifter. Nice clear golden color with a nice amber-ish, tangerine-ish hue to it with a descent foamy head that held it own and left some respectable lace. The aroma is very pleasant: doughy malt followed by the brett with notes of sweet cherries, green apple skins, oak, and a bit of belgian candi sugar. The candi sugar is much more apparent in the flavor. Though it is pleasing and not overdone, it is strong enough to take away from any potential, more subtle complexities. Still some nice cherry presence with a strange mustiness that follows the bretty tartness to a T. A very unique flavor. Medium to light bodied and a bit over-carbonated for my taste, but on point for the style. Overall: solid beer with quite a character. jumpjet2k (94), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 19, 2009 22oz. Very clear blonde with a bubbly white head, which doesn’t really last that long. Aroma is decidedly funky and spicy from the brett. A little fruitiness hides in it, though. Flavor is interesting. Quite estery. A bit musky. Spicy, as it warms up. The hibiscus comes through in the middle of the flavor. The finish is dry and brings a tartness that lingers in the aftertaste. Carbonation is pretty sharp, which works well for the beer. The strength kinda sneaks up on you - it’s hidden pretty well. I’ve not had a beer that’s as dominated by brett flavors and aroma as this one. Fortunately, Avery’s done a pretty good job with it. drseusszb200 (105), Florida, USA Jun 16, 2009 poured cloudy gold with a nice fluffy head with good retention. smelled of sweet oranges and kinda like a sour ale. taste tart fruitty and something i cannot place. plain aftertaste. WesKBob (252), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Jun 13, 2009 Pours a clear golden color with a moderate pillowy white head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of brett, dry hay and raisins. Flavor is sweet dried fruits (figs) and caramel malt. Brett is present, although not as strong as in the aroma. Mouthfeel is dry and slightly astringent. Some alcohol burn in the finish. The brett in this is nicely balanced and doesn’t overpower the other flavors. This would be a decent "Intro to Brettanomyces" beer for someone getting into craft beers, but beyond that it’s just an OK beer.
