Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

Bottle shared with friends at Obriens. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma like a petting zoo. Super funky barnyard, malty and spicy. Flavor is like eating old vegetable straight out of the earth then sucking on a musty old wet horseblanket to wash it down. I know the funky barnyard stuff is usually desired in this style, but in this case it just feels overwhelming. Overall somewhat disappointing. Medium bodied, medium carb.

660ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, American Weeks 2009) - shared with oh6gdx - thanks!
Soft sour aroma - quite like orval. Now I know it’s there, I can also detect a touch of the white pepper in the aroma too. Taste follows the orval theme, but with more peppery hops. Palate is crisp and biting, those hops are excellent. It’s uplifting with every sip. There’s clove in the finish, rather strangely.

Bottle. Body-Hazy honey, thick ring of bubbles, thin film of bubbles. Nose-light cherry funk, very light barnyard, very restrained fun. Decent nose. Taste-chlorine, pool water, light white grapes, grass (Marcus described it perfectly-tastes like chewing on a Cat’s Tail), light flower petals, tea. Overall the nose is nice, but the taste is way too grapey and floral, and reminds me of pool water.

Pours a slightly hazed highly effervesent pale gold with 1 finger creamy white head that has great retention. Aroma is moldy hay, wet limestone, crab apple, raw yeast, dandelion leaf and an underlying sweetness that just can’t cut through the funk. Flavor is tart and earthy up front, date nut bread sweetness, hints of sweet dark fruits, sweet amish frienship bread funk, mushroom, light wood notes, walnut skin bitter. Finish is light basement funk and a sort of straw sweetness and toast. Body is medium thin and sort of sticky.

22oz - Drank 1/29/09 - Aroma is straw, sour lemon, brett, doughy yeast, floral, sweaty sock and a touch of spice. Pours transparent gold with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is off unfortunately. Starts off doughy and floral but quickly turns dusty, like out in the back of your garage dusty. It’s growing on me and isn’t terrible, just not as good as aroma. Palate is dry. Overall worth a try and quite drinkable.

Crushed with Jakebra. Interesting brew. Very sour, tart flavor. Lots of tartness, but also incredibly sweet and malty and yeasty. Not sure what to make of it, but I kinda dig it.

22 oz bottle that pours a cloudy goden/yellow. Rather foamy head with a yeasty aroma with some funkiness. Spices that I could not put my finger on and some tart fruitiness. Somewhat understated flavor but may be due to this followed the Flying Dog Colorado Saison which was very flavorful. Nonetheless a nice farmhouse ale. Jsquire tried to explain the Brett’s but his beer knowledge far exceeds mine.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of perfume, citrus, grassy, hay, earthy. Tastes bitter and funky with some perfumy qualities on the finish. Enjoyable.
