Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

This is showing pretty nice right now. Pours a clear caramel color with a bit of bubbles and a medium to large sized bubbly off white head. Nose is mostly plastic and some figs. (Its smells like a brand new backpack from when I was a kid.) Taste is a bit peppery, dry, acidic, and also somewhat herbal. I can taste the hibiscus but they are very subtle and I probably would not have been able to ID them. Over all interesting but thats where it ends. Moderate mouthfeel and medium finish.

Big bottle shared around the table with my in-laws. Pours a cloudy golden. The general consensus from most of my family members that this smelled like a pig barn, with one person really getting a strong olive-like aroma too. I found that there was certainly a lot of bretty funk, along with sour grapes and apples. Palate is much in line with a sour ale style: sweet-sour fruit, musty corky yeast, and a grapeseed bitterness in the end. Complex and very well done, and certainly a conversation starter among non-RB friends and family!

From a 22 oz bottle this poured a cloudy orange with a very fat head that just sat there. Nose is very odd and shows citrus, ripe fruit, and figs. Somewhat fizzy mouthfeel. Flavor contains some unidentifiable spices I found unpleasant. Finish is dry and sour, and again not a nice sour. I found this a huge disappointment and could not finish even half the bottle. This bottle is only a few months old (since I purchased it) , but it may not have held up. No matter what other raters might have felt, this particular bottle was a failure. I sometimes do not like to rate a beer where I am so out of sync with the average, but here goes anyway.

Pours clear pinkish-orange with quickly dissipating head. Aroma is dry and fruity with funky brett notes. Flavor is crisp and dry with some earthy flowery notes up front and some nice strawberry, pear, fig, and melon throughout. A little thin on flavor, but a lingering sweetness makes this a pretty nice beer.

Poured hazy orange with a one finger head. Retention was ok; lacing was minimal. Citrus dominated the aromas and were quite strong, featuring oranges and grapefruit, a sour sense, and some oak. Flavors mirrored the aromas, and included some bananas and spices. Lots of carbonation, light to medium - but slightly watery - mouthfeel, and a sweet and sour aftertaste. Pleasant enough, but I expected more.

Bottle, 22oz, at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. A yellow-golden beer with a white head of moderate size. Both aroma and flavor are funky and barnyard-ish, with some sweetness and alcohol warmh in the mouth. Medium body, slightly astringent and dryish. A funky and pleasant beer, but not a rave. Maybe I expected a big, warm and sweet one. (080913)
