Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

Bottle. Poured a clear golden-light orange color with a white head. Lots going on in the aroma. I smelled flower blossom, Pez candy, distinct but subtle pepper, honey, and cereal grain. I also got whiffs of formaldehyde and funk. Light to medium bodied and semi-sweet with a hint of raw alcohol. Lemon, lime, Pez candy, flower blossom, and honey flavors. There was also a bit of pepper in the finish. Not much funk. Maybe a bit young yet?

22 oz bottle. Pours a clear gold with a big fizzy white head that had great retention, lots of visible carbonation. Very bretty nose, lots of stinky feet and grassiness. The brett is very prominent in the flavor, but there is not a whole lot there backing it up, it is kinda thin really. The feel of it is just a bit too thin even. Very fizzy and prickly carbonation. Overall, this was just missing something that many similar brett beers have, there is no softness to the malt at all.

650 ml bottle @ EBF 2008. Golden body with a white head. Aroma is dominated by a relatively mild kind of acidity. Flavor is refreshing fruity and spicy with a moderate acidity. Nice and interesting.

Sample draft at the tap room. Pour is murky straw yellow with a bit of white head. Nose is pretty bretty with some lemon and grass. Taste is not so good. Hangover vomit comes to mind. Sorry but I had to stop there.

Orange-straw with good, creamy white head / Funky nose of brett and green apple / Light to medium body, acidic yet resinous, fruit, with good, long finish / Funky flavors of brett, green apple, ginko, eucalyptus, white pepper / Not picking up the figs. Very Jolly Pumpkin-like, but less citrusy in favor of vegetal funk.

Pours a hazy yellow with a big, thick white head. There is a lot going on in the aroma. Apples, figs, some funk, pepper. Flavor is tart. It could be more tart. Its a bit salty, some funk. My enjoyment of this beer comes in waves, where, I seem to like it, then it turns my stomach, then I like it again. Explains the disparity in the range of reviews. I think the issue with this beer is the pepper and figs. Its better than the reviews would lead you to believe.

(10/26/08) Bottle at Barcade in Brooklyn. Hazy orange color. Aroma of some green apples, bretty notes and some malt. Sweetish-sourish flavor with some fruits, a bit too much yeast and some spicy notes. Medium-bodied with lots of carbonation. Quite nice.

I thought this was quite good. Pours a clear gold with white head. Its a strange combo of flavors. A little bit like a saison, lemon zest, grass, and funkiness, but also some fruit, banana, nuts, pepper, clove, and bread. This is underrated, I would like to celler a couple bottles.
