Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

(Bottle) Pours light hazy golden with a medium, white head. The friendly side of the aroma is the spicy, woody, citric dry and brett-funky tones but the medium to heavily herbal/grassy, stale floral and too clean fruity notes is a problem for my nose. Hints of a orange/mild lemon juiciness, tart pears, green apples, overripe peach, prunes, figs, hay, coriander, pepper, milky cheese, dough, mild cherry perfume, plastic, honey and roses are all present. Dusty dry. The flavour is of citrus, brett, fruits, green vegetables, hay, grain, cracker, peppery spices, alongside mild floral/piney and woody hints. Starts light sweet but the finish is rather dry. Light to medium bitter. The mouthfeel light unclean, light sourish and dry with a medium carbonation. The aftertaste is of horse-like brett, citrus and dry malt. Medium bodied. Quite complex, quite mediocre...

I can’t smell very much in this beer. Looks ok, not much head. This is strange. A little fruit, but not distinct. I can’t tell what it is about this beer but it’s not that great really. Okay at best. Don’t get any distinct fig.

I’ve had this 3 times now and I really can’t get myself to like it (drainpour, actually). Weird, weird brett strain that doesn’t seem quite right. Band aidy and a huge grainy pepper flavor that totally dominate. I don’t get this...especially dont get how it won a medal at GABF - I still love Avery!

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a thumbnail of white head and a dark, murky golden color. The nose is quite intriguing and a precedent of the flavors to come with notes of fruits, fig, and funky Brettanomyces. Flavors include grapes, more fig, subtle sour yeast, shoebox, spices, and a bitter hops presence in the back. Medium/high carbonation and medium body. I enjoyed this brew thoroughly; it is interesting and complex. I always love when breweries experiment with wild yeast strains and unconventional ingredients. This beer is surely underrated and could possibly be one of my favorites from Avery so far.

Bottle pours a hazy well carbonated golden amber body. Sweet and dry brett in the nose. Lemon peel and light funkiness. Hints of spices pepper, dusty hop character, some lemon fruit, a bit acidic and tart but nothing over the top. Floral with a very dry finish thanks to brett. Good brew, etoh is hidden in this dusty brew.

Poured a hazy light gold with a white head. Dusty and leathery aroma and light floral. Brett funk gets stronger as this warms. So far it smells nicer than I expected from ratings and I will buy another to age. The flavor is hoppy and pretty floral. Especially on the end. Dry finish with a mild bretty bitterness.

Draft at Pizza Paradiso. Rating this off a small sample (gasp! b/c a) I didn’t want to pay for a whole bottle of this stuff and b) i didn’t want to have to drink it or feel like i had to at least finish some of it). I’m glad I did. The recipe for this belgian ale is very intriguing but the aromas and flavors I received from it were quite simple and dull. Nose has a mild dose of brett on the front, and is followed by a stale, corn, band-aid potpourri that lingers throughout the whole experience. I tasted a little of the pepper, but the rocky mountain water is difficult to detect. A weird, golden fizzy beer.

This pours a hazy gold body with a creamy head and liquid lace. It has a floral aroma with a light Bretty funk and a touch of wet hay. The flavor has an underlying grainy sweetness overshadowed by and acidic tartness, a floral bitterness, some white pepper, and a quiet earthiness. The finish is dry and tart. Not bad, but the description made it seem like it’d be much better.
