sliffy (1896), Columbus, Ohio, USA May 5, 2008 Bottle shared by nolankowal: Pours a hazy gold with a white head. Aroma, yeasty, pale malts, some wheat, lemon and pineapple, lightly tart and funky. Flavor, yeast, pale malts, bready notes, lightly tart, lemons, some spices, and a light funk to it. Solid brew.
Beaver (434), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 12, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head that quickly diminishes to a thin collar.
The aroma is rather unpleasant funky (and slightly burnt) yeast and bandaids with some spices and some tart fruits. Some buttery malts (popcorn) come out as it warms.
The flavor is a little tart fruitiness (lemons) and buttery malts that is quickly smothered by a kind of peppery and floral bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of sharp carbonation at first that mellows.
Overall, an interesting concept, but not nearly as good as it sounded. The combination of flavors and smells didn’t mesh well with me. It’d be interesting to see if more sourness comes out as it ages.
blutt59 (300), dallas, Texas, USA May 11, 2008 bottle, hazy yellow gold color with a nice white head, nose is like aspirin or chalk, well balanced sour funky taste that has some fruit and flowers, good beer Jvittorio4187 (241), Boardman, Ohio, USA May 11, 2008 Pours a golden, hazy, orange with a thick white head. Aroma is very unique, smells of hospital bandages and sweet italian sausage. Mouthfeel is meduim. Tastes is very akward, didn’t get the funk. Taste is heavy with the same as the aroma, some spice, and full of yeast. Finish is akward and dry. Wild yeast? In homebrewing this is a negative thing. To sum up this rating all I can say is wow, what a disappointment. BlackForestCO (404), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear golden color with rapid rising bubbles and a thick white head that faded slowly and left some light lacing. Nice aroma of funky, tart brett, some buttery toast, a bit of cirtus, and light spice. Opens with some light, soft citrus flavors and funk that leads into an awkward, out of place buttered popcorn flavor that really took away from the enjoyment of the beer. Still finishes with a lightly tart, fruity finish that shows a little promise. I pray that some age will smooth out the malt flavors and bring out a bit more funk, because as is this is a huge disappointment. ogglethorp (707), Ohio, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours straw colored with a thin off white head. Aroma is tiger pee (I just go back from the zoo, so I know), light floral, light pale malts. Flavor is funk, pale malts, some toast, some citrus. Palate is medium to light bodied, medium carbonation finished lightly tart. I hate this beer! Very rarely do I pour anything down the drain, but that’s where this one is going! Blahhh! I may have a newest lowest rated ever!
