Commercial Description:
15 years of brewing! You know what’s been the best part lately? Tons of experimentation! For the last couple of years, we’ve been working with several strains of brettanomyces (wild yeast). We found one and deemed it the best for it’s tart flavor and funky, fruity aroma. Adding black mission figs for a subtle jammy aspect, hibiscus flowers for an herbal bouquet and hazy sunset hue, and white pepper for a bit of spicy twang, we’ve created FIFTEEN - a unique drinking experience inspired by the wild farmhouse ales of Belgium. Though immensely complex today, more flavor will emerge with time, so throw a few bottles in your cellar for future celebrations. Thanks to all of you who have made our 15-year ride possible! Peace to all and follow your dreams! Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, malted wheat, hops, black mission figs, hibiscus flowers, white pepper, and a very unique strain of brettanomyces yeast.

660ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki, American Weeks 2009) - shared with oh6gdx - thanks!
Soft sour aroma - quite like orval. Now I know it’s there, I can also detect a touch of the white pepper in the aroma too. Taste follows the orval theme, but with more peppery hops. Palate is crisp and biting, those hops are excellent. It’s uplifting with every sip. There’s clove in the finish, rather strangely.

cloudy orange pour with a medium sized white head. Aroma is foot and pepper. Flavor has more cheese/foot, along with the flowers and spices they used. The white pepper mixed very well with the fig, and the brett didn’t make that much of a funky appearance as I thought it would. Everything mixed pretty well in the finish. Pretty watery but I was assuming it would be. Very nice.

Tap at the brewery. Pale body with a lace-leaving head. Brett funk on the nose. Rather sweet and a touch of sour on the tongue. Finishes quite dry as one would expect a Belgian. I thought this beer was quite tasty, but I may have to try the bottle after the ratings I see.

Deep golden color......a tad hazy. Fluffy head......floral aroma, with a few hints of fruit and spices. Front slowly opens up with a mild spice flavor and a pretty crisp, though not overpowering, mouthfeel. Spicy flavor slowly morphs into the sour taste of a classic farmhouse ale, with a few subtle fruit notes......finish is long and laced with a peppery aftertaste. Definitely a unique and extremely complex ale.

6-19-09: 22oz. Very clear blonde with a bubbly white head, which doesn’t really last that long. Aroma is decidedly funky and spicy from the brett. A little fruitiness hides in it, though. Flavor is interesting. Quite estery. A bit musky. Spicy, as it warms up. The hibiscus comes through in the middle of the flavor. The finish is dry and brings a tartness that lingers in the aftertaste. Carbonation is pretty sharp, which works well for the beer. The strength kinda sneaks up on you - it’s hidden pretty well. I’ve not had a beer that’s as dominated by brett flavors and aroma as this one. Fortunately, Avery’s done a pretty good job with it.

11-16-09: Bomber again. It’s a bit orange hued this time, still a bubbly white head, with a bit of lacing. Brett tinge in the aroma is not quite so strong as the sweet floral notes. There’s a nice level of tartness in the flavor that blends well with the spices. I had thought this beer would be on its way downhill by now, but it seems to be the opposite. Nice sparkling carbonation, too. This is really drinking well right now.

On tap at the brewery on 7/17/09 (good timing on my part!). Pours a hazy yeallow with little head. Strong grapefruit and lemon aroma with a bit of funk. Actually has a nice sourness with a touch of sweet vanilla. Then a clean bitter finish. This developed incredibly well as it warmed and I am very happy to have tried it.
