BlackForestCO (479), Fort Collins and Black Forest, Colorado, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear golden color with rapid rising bubbles and a thick white head that faded slowly and left some light lacing. Nice aroma of funky, tart brett, some buttery toast, a bit of cirtus, and light spice. Opens with some light, soft citrus flavors and funk that leads into an awkward, out of place buttered popcorn flavor that really took away from the enjoyment of the beer. Still finishes with a lightly tart, fruity finish that shows a little promise. I pray that some age will smooth out the malt flavors and bring out a bit more funk, because as is this is a huge disappointment.
bobaidan (300), Farmington, Connecticut, USA Jul 22, 2008 Pours cloudy gold with a medium head. Aroma is slightly sour and fruity. Mouth feel is a bit thin, but there is a good amount of carbonation. Flavor is tart fruit, a bit of spice and a lot of earthy funk. The finish is surprisingly dry. An interesting attempt, but more like a failed experiment than a breakout new beer. DocLock (4047), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 Pours hazy dull deep gold with 1-finger white head. Nose is florals, fig, rock sugary malt, berries, white pepper, hops. Tastes fruity, with berry notes, plus candi sugary malt, hops, funk, florals. This one is a bit of a mishmash, but points for originality. With age, I think this should improve tangibly. Magjayran (1088), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 21, 2008 Golden pour with a decent white head. Aroma is a little tart and fruity but not very bold. The flavor is pretty bad. Thin and sour up front with an offensive soapy taste and some fig notes tacked on at the end as a final insulting parting shot. BOLTZ7555 (408), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jul 21, 2008 Quite tasty and unique...love the souring of the brett (a flavor I am beginning to appreciate). Honey gold in color with a 1/4 inch tight white head. The aroma is filled with citrus, pepper, and funk. The tartness is a refreshing addition to summer. WeeHeavySD (1564), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Jul 21, 2008 Tap @ Hamilton’s. I shared this with a friend and it ended up better than I expected. Though it had way too much spice for me.
