Bottle. High creamy and long lasting brown head. Clear and ark ruby body. Sweet and fruity, raisin - plum, caramel aroma. Burned barley malt flavor with dry and hoppy untertones. Relatively sweet plum rainsin. Low carbonation. Long aftertaste that is a bit hard to describe so I don’t.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 mybrainhurts (334) - North Dakota, USA - AUG 11, 2007
Large and puffy white head plopped on top of a deep brown liquid. Definate belgian spiced, yeasty aroma. Bananas, roasted malts, and hard fruits. Creamy, layered texture in the mouth. Dark caramel, toffee, and candy sweet flavor. Becomes rather cloying mid bottle. Overall, not bad, but a little tweaking is needed.

Hard to peg this, no doubt. A bit too much sweet molasses for me. Yet this is fantastically complex. Is it suped up brown ale or porter or Beligan ale? Who cares? It just rocks.

22oz - Aroma of chocolate, caramel, raisin, molasses and piney hops. Pours deep dark brown with a think brown head and great lacing. Flavor is rich with chocolate, piney hops, caramel, earthy hops, brown sugar and finishes with raisin and prune. Palate is sticky and sweet but tart. A unique and tasty brew. One of my favorite Anny brews from Avery.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - AUG 7, 2007
22 ounce bottle from, uhhh, some beer shop in the midwest somewher in June 2007, served a bit below cellar temperature NOT from a fucking Trappist glass as recommended here but from a plain ol’ Corsendonk Christmas Ale glass that is my go-to for such things, thank you very much. Quite the beautiful pour, light tan with caramel hints in the stable, meringue-like head that initially fills the glass, dissipating very very slowly atop a porter-like near-opaque molasses-brown/black body....thick, spidery-lattice lacing also results as the head decreases enough to attempt a....nosing, which is at first just huge resinous hops, lots of bitter orange and a bit of grapefruit; I look for development but there isn’t much besides light sugariness.....in the body, slightly more interest; it’s very, very sweet, sugary and Stone-like at first, that combination of thick hoppy juices and huge syrupy sugars that I often associate with the California brewery, but there’s a bit more interest in the molasses-brown sugar characteristic, as a bit of a burnt/tarry note creeps in, some caramel-butterscotch towards the finish, vanilla.....still all in all this is pretty dull and unconvincing, a hopped-up, syrupy-sweet, high-octane brown/amber ale that really isn’t terribly quaffable, and isn’t complex enough to merit sipping. Blah. I must admit that I am losing my taste for these sorts of things....
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 ChainGangGuy (3682) - Canton, Georgia, USA - AUG 5, 2007
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, ruby edged body with a full, beige head.
Smell: An earthy and sweet-smelling aroma of aromatic tobacco, toasted marshmallows, brown sugar cookies, perfumy pine, and a dash of candied ginger.
Taste: Largely malty, with flavors of caramel, brown sugar, dark chocolate, and coffee culminating in a distinct mocha taste. A hint of figs adds a bit of fruitiness. The hops provide a piney bite near the end while the alcohol gives plenty of heat. Finishes bittersweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Well, that’s all I can currently think of for this one. I’m sure there’s even more lurking in there if you take the time to pick it apart. An interesting beer with plenty of appeal.
