2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 womencantsail (3572) - Home of Rebecca Black, California, USA - MAR 24, 2011
A: The beer pours a copper sort of color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Opens up with some caramel and brown sugar as well as toffee and a bit of molasses. Mostly sugar type aromas but there is a nice breadiness, a touch of citrus, and a mild amount of oxidation to it.
T: Unfortunately, the flavor is quite bland. Slightly watery with most of the flavor coming in the form of bread. Some decent toffee along with floral and earthy hops and just a hint of bitterness.
M: Medium in body with a moderate carbonation.
O: Really mediocre and underwhelming. I guess at least it wasn’t harsh and hot like a lot of high gravity Avery beers.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 crossovert (2546) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 16, 2011
A super sweet and hoppy barleywine, definitely an extrema one with primarily grapefruit and caramel.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 theisti (2371) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - MAR 12, 2011
22 oz bomber courtesy of fancypantsbeer. Pour is a slight haze darker copper with a nice two inch off white head. Nice coating lacing. Aroma is resinous sweet mild honey, along with a woody caramel maltiness. Nice bit of spice earthiness in there as well. Taste is quite big on both resinous earthy and floral honey hops and the the toasty caramel sweet maltiness. Despite the size and weight of the flavors, still nicely balanced. After taste is warming, but not sharp alcohol. Palate is medium to heavy bodied, lower carnonation and a mineral dry finish. Overall a great example of a nig hop american barley wine. Thanks for giving me the bottle John.

Pour is cloudy orange with a small off white head. Nose is of raisins and a slight hop character. Taste is the same with a bit more complexity.
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Blairgus (1019) - California, USA - MAR 11, 2011
UPDATED: NOV 4, 2011 4 nov 2011, tap. Pink orange, some haze, no bubbles. Nose is fresh squeezed orange juice, big resiny hops, sweet raisiny alcohol. Med body and fairly fizzy. Sweet bubble gum alcohol is first but it quickly gives way to resiny hops that leaves a bitter finish. Fantastic!
(original rating 9 3 8 4 17 = 4.1) amber colour. hard to pay attention to aromas b/c hops smell so delicious!
full body but not too heavy
rich and raininy w/ a white grape flavour
thin hop finish
great b/c hops are mainly aromatic w/ only faint hop taste and not bitter so they don’t distract from raisiny alcohol of barley wine
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sleeper (91) - Washington, USA - MAR 6, 2011
Beautiful beer. Pours a nice amber with hoppy nose. The bitterness of the hops are very present. Piny. If you love hops, this is a great beer to try.

Courtesy of Dunbar72. Pours hazy deep amber with a tiny bubbly head. Aroma is oily, sweet, raisins, prunes and hoppy. Fresh sweet, malty mouthfeel. Flavor is fruity, raisins, prunes, dades, sweet, tart and hoppy. Phenolic palate. Finishes with a great tart hoppy bite.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Strykzone (2906) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - FEB 27, 2011
Pour is a clear dark copper with a funky rocky tan head that leaves light lacing. Nose is big west coast hops and that begins the flavor. Soon rich caramel can be tasted and it takes a lot of it to get through those hops. Toffee, toastiness, and dark fruit are secondary. Aftertaste is sour with caramel. This is borderline IIPA. A delicious beer that soars and never comes down.
