3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Uglyradio (791) - Greenville, South Carolina, USA - NOV 2, 2002
Aroma of raisons and vanilla with a nice deep red color. Wonderfully balanced, with a nice hop bittery finish. Alcohol flavor is no where to be found. A little thin on the mouthfeel, but still a great barleywine and worth picking up if you see it.

Very delicious hop flavor. Alcohol is slightly subdued by malt presence and amazing hop flavors. I’ll drink this again.

Hoo-yeah! I am really liking these higher-ABV beers now that they are available in Ohio. The aroma floodgates were opened from the minute I cracked this one open! Strong hops with barley malt in the background. Very pretty amber hue with a medium beige head and some lacing. Very malty flavor with some caramel. Dry, hoppy finish with alcohol notes. Very good beer that left me with a pleasant buzz.

Mmm hoppy, yes that is the ticket,ABV is hidden,
complex ale, hoppy, acidic, nice way to finish out a night of quality beer dinking.Grapefruit, malt, closer to an IPA than what is listed, still a good choice.

Yes! High alcohol beers allowed in Ohio! Our college tuition may go up every semester and sometimes twice, but our gov Taft did something good here. I thought I’d start with this ale. Medium light bodied with notes of citrus and sweet malts in the aroma. I watched the lacing gracefully dance down the glass. What a trip! I love hops and the 100 IBUs go well here, they are nicely balanced believe it or not. The hops do prevail in the finish. The 9.2% ABV is hidden well. What a nice ale!

Intense hoppy, brandyish aroma. Initial flavour is bitter followed by some alcohol and butterscotch. The finish is warming. Body is relatively thin for this style, I think it needs more substance.

Very intense hop malt aroma and rich amber color. Definitely more hops than in a typical barley wine, but it seems to blend well with the sweet malt flavor. Flavor lasts and a nice warm feeling resides from the alcohol content.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2007 Perfect true amber color, with a medium thick creamy beige head, excellent retention and heavy lacing. Strong hop aroma: pine resins and maybe a little citrus. Extraordinarily creamy palate and unbelievably well balanced. Full rich sweet caramel malt circled by tingly resiny and spicy hop flavors. Finish is strongly bitter but not unbalanced at all. Both malt and hops lingering in the mouth. One of the smoothest and most drinkable barleywines I’ve encountered.

Ruby-garnet color with with a thin beige head. Wine like and hop to the nose. Rich, roasty, sweet malt flavor with a hint of grapefruit in the aftertaste.
