Pours a nice brown color with a hint of red. Nice off white head. Smells of hops and brown sugar. Taste is that of a delicious barley wine. Has the sweetness and bitterness that I like! Mmm
4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 IPAsavedMYlife (251) - St. Petersburg, Florida, USA - JAN 28, 2011
This is one of the "lighter" barley wines that I have had. The balance tends to sway to the sweeter side rather than the hoppy. There are some hop notes in there as well, and linger afterwards. Plenty of carbonation. Very sweet, almost like drinking candy. The first wif I got when I was pouring was the luxurious sent of yeast mixed with candy. Smell is strong on caramel/toffee notes. Beer is very unfiltered as you can see the sediment in the beer. Overall great intro to the style, but slightly too sweet to yield a higher rating.

22 oz dusty bottle...been in the cellar a LONG time. Poured cloudy, toffee colored, with off-white head. The hops are still noticeable in the nose, with raisins and sweet malts. Sweet bready/toasty malts. Hops are slightly resiny, but it was pretty easy on the hop flavor. The 100 IBUs blended well with the malts and the age of the beer. It had a nice balance. Yum.

At Bavarian Lodge in Lisle. Smells of pure barley almost too much. Sweet like other barley wines but not as sweet as some. Thick and syrupy. Not bad but not sure it is really my thing. Serving: Tap

Aroma: Overwhelming floral hops with little else.
Appearance: Clear reddish orange with a thick white head that dissipates too quickly.
Taste: Light sweetness, heavy bitterness, very slight sourness in the finish
Palate: Full body, crisp texture, lively carbonation, long finish
Overall: It’s a very impressive and deeply textured Barley Wine. Not the best I’ve had, but certainly well crafted.

Bottle (in NZ). Still can’t decide how much I liked this. On one hand it was very sweet, on the other there was a lot of hoppiness and spiciness to balance that out. Or did it?

Nice pink-red pour. Caramel bourbon malt nose. Also strawberry/watermelon jolly rancher. Tastes a little sweet, a little sour, tangy. Again, straw/watermelon jolly rancher. Nice tingling carbonation. Citrus and hops in the finish.
