MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 18, 2009 Avery 10/10/08 at brewery tasting room. Double dry hopped Uberschwein. (Dry hopped cask of Hop Heaven Barleywine) Grassy floral hop nose. Cloudy amber orange. Hops settled to bottom of cup. Orange medium head. Big orange citrus hop flavor over carmelized malts. Dry moderately bitter finish. Excellent. mrhoppy (209), Santa Clara, California, USA Jan 16, 2009 Nice caramel and pineapple nose and big malt presence. Medium rusty color. Not much head or lace. Soft mellow hops with a sharp hoppy finish. All the flavors described come through for a well balanced very drinkable beer. For me something is missing. Hard to believe it’s 9.2 abv. tturner (103), , Washington, USA Jan 16, 2009 this seems closer to an imperial IPA than barley wine. hoppy malty citrus grapefruit. long bitter finish. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 7, 2009 Updated: Jan 28, 2009Pours a brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes thinly, and leaves some streams of lacing. Aroma is intense hops - grapefruit, pineapple, some apricot - alongside some caramel malts. Taste is some piney hoppiness that isn’t very bitter. Smooth moutfeel with a slight malt backbone. Not as malty as some other Barley Wines, but also not as bitter as a Bigfoot.
Top notch and very approachable Barley Wine! VTHopHead (895), Barre, Vermont, USA Jan 4, 2009 Bomber - Pours a cloudy dark amber in color with a small off-white head that hung around. Some really nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is quite hoppy... citrusy and resinous and nice... some malty undertones. Flavor is also quite hoppy (spice and citrus) with a decent amount of malt understructure that reduces the bite of the hops. Alcohol is not apparent. Finish is all about the hops... bitter and lingering. Needs a bit more balance to be a really goo BW, but for me the hops is just an added attraction. AgentSteve (1334), SF Bay Area, California, USA Jan 2, 2009 Attractive caramel ruddy pour with a bubbly finger thick tan head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Sweet malty, caramel and toffee nose with a decent amount of pineapple as well. The flavor is a bit more mellow, with toffee in the front to mid palate and finishing with a decent dose of hop spiciness. Definitely more of an American style BW. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Jan 1, 2009 Bottle. It pours a reddish-golden body under a beige head. Hop driven aroma with pinecones, resin and a tiny fluorine touch. Not much maltyness to report. The flavor is maltier, with sweetness and beefstock to give some balance to the piney, resiny hops. Getting quite bitter towards the finish. Full-bodied. Lasting bitter finish. A lovely one-hour beer, quite challenging, but not to the extreme. (081031) 1010 (206), Marysville, Ohio, USA Jan 1, 2009 Pours a orangish tan color with a nice full head
You can really taste the alcohol in this one although it does have an excellent taste and aroma
