daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 30, 2008 Bottle from total wine. To be honest I am not a fan of hoppy barleywines for the most part. So I will rate this on the merits of the beer and not my personal preference. Brownish pour wtih a big light head. Aroma is very hoppy with some notes of caramel, toffee, and malts. Flavor is full of citrus hops, some pine hops, sweet malt and is carbonated well. A tad expensive, so I dont thing I will be drinking this very much. ceffalo (38), , Texas, USA Nov 29, 2008 Room temperature. Poors a red-gold dark brown color with a thick bubbly head. Aroma is intensely hoppy and somewhat sweet.
Flavor is nice and hoppy. Well done with a slight roasted maltiness. No sense of the alcohol. Lingers on the palate nicely. A good beer without being great.
mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 As expected seems to be a hybrid American DIPA/Barleywine combo style. Pours a slightly hazy amber-orange color producing a fluffy, thick white head. Foam fades out quite a bit leaving a thin coating of swirly islands with some spotty lacing. Nose shows off tons of citrus rind and piney hops with some caramel and toffee notes waffing in the background. Very IPA like in the aroma department here. Palate is full, slick and creamy with a fine carbonation fizz. Flavors are pretty well balanced between the malts and hops for a western US BW. The hoppy citrus and pine flavors do dominate, but there is a nice sweet malty contribution with tastes of melted caramels, toffee and roasted malts. A decent level of warming alcohol comes in at the finish to let you know you’re drinking a hefty brew. Good stuff, but considering the $7.49 price not a great value. jimmack34 (560), Lancaster, Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours hazy amber with soft white head. Smells fruity, malty and tons of floral and piney hops. Tastes strong with rich hops and sweet malts. Hints of fruit, gourmet bread, honey, pine, grass, and flowers balance out into an intensely flavorful brew. Plenty of body that finishes semi dry and leaving you wanting another drink. Warms you up all the way down. Excellent beer. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Nov 20, 2008 Bottle: Hazy red colour, with anice head. Aroma of flowers ,dust, caramelly. Flavor is smouth fruity/caramelly/alcu,citric mouth feeling. Medium fruity finish. Werry nice Barley Wine this is. MrChopin (622), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 19, 2008 Thanks to jjpm79 for the bottle! Opaque tan-amber with small yellow-ish head. Nose is nicely balanced with fresh citrus, sugar, tea-malt, and alcohol. Flavor is even better, so balanced with the fresh fruity hop, the malt, and the slight alcohol. Palate is a little salty, not so sticky though. Overall, supremely drinkable barley wine with a lot to offer. Kind of Old Horizontal-lite. Oink!
ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Oct 31, 2008 (Bomber at home on October 31, 2008) Very light-colored for a barley wine... light orange-amber color, and carbonation... big bubbles! Medium to small off-white head. Very clear. Very nice appearance. Great, hoppy aroma, much like an imperial IPA. Very syrupy on the tongue - and you can tell it’s the alcohol as it sloshes around the toungue. Pretty hoppy, and a bit spicy on the tip of the tongue. Goes down easy, relatively thin. A conservative, yet hoppy barley wine. Something’s making me crave more hops... Hmmm... A+ rlcnmeyer (2), Lees Summit, Missouri, USA does not count Oct 31, 2008 Bomber. Not reallly what I consider a Barleywine, but absolutely delicious medium-bodied hoppy beer! I’m not sure what it should be classified as, but who cares...just sit back and enjoy! Sometimes beers don’t fit into neat classifications, which is a good thing in my book! Great job Adam!
