3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 drowland (3568) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2010
9/24/10. Dark red-brown pour that is basically opaque with a fluffy tan head that lasts and laces like crazy. Dark, almost roasted coffee aroma with plenty of molasses and sweet dark fruits under there. Bitter entry followed by hints of sweet fruits, but there is some sort of papery oxidation or something going on, as well as a dash of sour. Reminds me of good, but not great, homebrew.
4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 jesperhammer (1294) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 25, 2010
25-SEP-2010, bottle @home, Marianne brought this back from New York:-)
Beautiful copper with high lasting off-white head. Very inviting. Somewhat clear and light for a barley wine, a bit dark for an IIPA...
...and this is just what an ideal IIPA should be. Painfully hoppy with loads of malt. I know it is a barley wine, but it is never sticky and it continues to be fresh, if a barley wine can be that?
Very very grape fruit like with some charamel. Very full, not alcoholic at all, just wonderfully creamy and extremely long lasting bitter finish.
Best Barley wine ever?
Thank you, Marianne:-)
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 greig (253) - Hamilton, NEW ZEALAND - SEP 24, 2010
Pine needles and grapefruit on the nose, and that’s what the flavour delivers. It’s like concentrated marmalade, but with a squirt of pine fresh. In a good way though! It’s truly delicious, and hides the 9.2% alcohol very well. So easy to drink, but with a real bitter bite at the end. Great beer.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 superspak (587) - Michigan, USA - SEP 23, 2010
22 ounce bottle. Pours cloudy red-orange color with a nice dense 2 finger light tan head with great retention and amazing glass lacing. Aromas of caramel, pine, citrus, and floral. Taste of sweet caramel, and bitter citrus and floral. Alcohol content is covered up very well. Very well balanced, and with enough bitterness to satisfy my taste. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. Fantastic brew! This bomber was a gusher unfortunately, so I will have to give it another go later on, but it is an easy find anyways.

A citrus- yeast nose with a raisin flavor and enjoyable hop bitterness on the end. The mouth feel was full and creamy. The beer was sweet to a certain degree, but the hops helped balance it out, making this an enjoyable brew. I look forward to enjoying this barley-wine again. The bitterness of the hops was comparable to a strong IPA or just short of an Imperial IPA, very nice :D.

Poured a golden orange color, nose was loaded with west coast hops, taste was mildly boozy with a good hop bite.

Dark amber/cider color; Medium slightly creamy body; Aroma of sweet malt, pine hops, citrus, & floral; Flavor of sweet malt, rich spicy hops, caramel, some dark fruit, and spice; Finish is bitter; Nicely balanced & complex; Overall, has qualities of an imperial IPA - great brew.

First of all, as well as , most of all, this beer could be called an imperial IPA and I think that the majority of the beer community would not question its labeling. This is one seriously hoppy ale, especially if you crack open a freshy. As I wallow through the see of imperial IPA’s and revisit past favorites, I constantly must remind myself of the laser etching that this brew will administer to my enamel. This is a imperial IPA drinkers "barley-wine".
