MatSciGuy (629), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a clear copper with a medium off white head. Aroma is loaded with citrus hops. Some malt backbone, but smells more like a double IPA. Flavor is hop forward. Very bitter, with the sweetness of the malt coming through towards the end. Swalden28 (1442), McKinney, Texas, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle from Market Street in McKinney, TX.
Pours a nice hazy dark amber with very nice beige head. Aroma of caramel and grapefruit. Flavor is sweet with obvious grapefruit and caramel malts. Has full body and low-medium carbonation. Overall this is a very good barleywine! Really hit the spot. scrizzz (1252), kirkland, Washington, USA Jul 13, 2008 clear amber with a great ruby tint. very creamy dense head. intriguing aroma of wood, molasses and oily pine hops, with delicate rose hips hiding in there as well. silky caramel beginning is quickly overcome from the imposing wall of hops whose floral qualities of wildflowers, nectar and more pine start simple but offers much more when i look closer. once warmed, the bitterness becomes more astringent, body is thinner, and much of the sweetness fades. Whitebread (3), tampa, Florida, USA does not count Jul 12, 2008 i’m new to rate beer and barley wines but this really tastes good. sweet smell. head is sweet but the beer not so much.i didnt know how its supposed to be served and the bottle said keep refrigerated so i tried it first cold.....not recomended! then my buddy told me barley-wines room temp so i let it warm up and it was terrific!! jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Jul 11, 2008 Pours amber with thick off white head. Aroma has hops and caramel. Taste is big on the hops with nice blend of malt and caramel. Nice thick mouthfeel. This one is fresh and comes off more like a IIPA. Very similar to Maharaja. I love my hops and this was good. HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 Pours a deep red with an off white head that clings to the glass. Big nose of hops, hot alcohol, fruit, dough, molasses, caramel. Taste is very hoppy, sweet malt, some fruit, then more hops in the finish. A surprisingly hoppy barely wine. Pretty awesome for a barley wine. DenverLogan (421), MileHi, Colorado, USA Jul 8, 2008 During one GABF week when I lived in Denver I had this on tap as my session beer! I’ve been drinking it for years in bottle and on tap and it’s a big league winner for a hoppy barley wine lover. Reddish amber, medium head. Big hops and malt, some alcohol, plums, molassas, caramel. Good fresh or aged. mcox90 (618), Wilton, USA Jul 7, 2008 22 oz bottle, courtesy of Acknud. Pours a hazy garnet color with a tiny off white head. Nice thick, syrupy mouthfeel with mild carbonation. Nose is hops & caramel. Taste is same as nose. Very sweet brew. Some alcohol warmth, but not overwhelming.
