I certainly have never had this much hop in a barleywine! I would definitely categorize this as an extreme IPA. This one pours lighter than most barley wines, an amber-copper color. The aroma is of dried fruits and hops. There is a nice caramel and roasted malt flavor on the front end, followed by a hop bitterness. The finish is a little hoppy, but not too much. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Pours amber/red with a nice lasting off-white head. Big hoppy aroma is immediately perceived; it’s mostly pine and fresh grass. Smooth bitterness coats the tongue. There’s just barely enough malt to keep this beer from being an IIPA. Body is surprisingly light and drinkable. A barleywine that is actually a bit refreshing??? Cool. Skeegle (485), Maryland, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 3, 2008 Nice soft mouthfeel on this barley wine. It has a bit of hoppiness with a subdued sweetness that was very nice and very characteristic of the style. Overall, nothing extremely great, but very well done. Some very light fruits that don’t assert themselves much. Bigmmartin (367), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Aroma is more hoppy than many barley wines. The flavor is a great balance of strong bitter hoppiness, sweet malt, dark fruits, caramel, and some alcohol (although not overpowering at all.) 12many (231), Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Burgundy amber with a nice but unimprssive head. Intense malt and piney hop nose. Well balanced hop bitterness and sweet malt flavor. Smooth and lasting bitter aftertaste. Very nice beer. Would like try it after it ages. VitaminR (426), Colorado, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 28, 2008 Caramel soaked apricots and resiny hop nose. Soapy small head that lingered, reddish amber color. Rich caramel sweetness...multi-layered hop bitterness. Tight carbonation, full body and silky, long complex finish, alcohol is almost completely masked by flavors. One of the best "Barley Wines" I’ve ever had! EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 22, 2008 Dark amber with dark cream head. Nice, bright, citrus and carmel and hop scent. Very satisfying malt and hops flavor, a bit sweet, but well balanced with bitter. Alcohol not overly evident. Pleasing finish. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA
