topherh (892), Kearney, Missouri, USA May 28, 2008 22 oz bottle Aroma is citrusy hops and sweet malt. Flavor is dominated by hops, not overly bitter though. Nice maltiness as well. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA May 27, 2008 bomber into wine glass (for lack of sniffer). Aroma is intense citrus (grapefruit) hops combined with an undertone of malty sweetness. Pours rich wooden amber color with red notes and a creamy head that holds and even laces a wine glass. The flavor starts with a grapefruity hop presence with a thick crystal malt finish that adds sweetness to the hoppy (so much so it is almost sour) finish. Heavy and oily on the palate. Overall: this is a big fresh beer worth trying; I feel that this could just as easily (or more so) be considered a DIPA instead of a Barley Wine. GMCC2181 (848), Bear, Delaware, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle from Sparky27. Poured into a snifter, muddy amber color with a small head. Smells like sweet hops. Taste sweet malt and nice touch of hops in a barleywine. Heavier then medium texture along with a low carbonation. Easy to drink but not that smooth. Maybe because of the heavier texture. But over all a good beer to end my hectic memorial day work weekend. Thanks ERIC! joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 25, 2008 dark red with tan head. huge crystal malt flavor but a very strong hop component providing bitterness and flavor. both the malt and hop are well displayed and overall it is a very drinkable barley wine. very nice yespr (11649), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 25, 2008 22 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy to murky orange with a lacing orange head. Dry woody and liqourice like hops aroma, solid. Flavour is subdued sweet at first and followed by a dry woody and liqourice pinehops flavour. Somewhat too brutal yet not without a certain inviting tastyness to it. Ends dry and bitter, lingering liqourice and wooden notes. Lacks some refinement - somewhat too brutal. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland May 25, 2008 Red brown colour. Light brown head. A light smell of glue. Sweet and sticky. Some hoppiness in the end. After little warming some grapefruit in the taste. Fresh grass in the nose. Some bite of hop in the end. Rciesla (3513), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA May 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours amber red with a thin off white head. Aromatics is sweet malt, and floral grass earthy hoppiness. I didnt care for this one. Beerlando (2286), Orlando, Florida, USA May 19, 2008 Pours a completely clear, reddish-gold body with a small, foamy, cream colored head. The nose is intensely hopped, with as aggressive a grapefruit profile as you are likely to find. Sharp citrus notes surprisingly dominate the sweet, caramel maltiness that lies beneath. Buttery toffee makes a strong push as it warms, but never quite reaches a balancing point. Likewise, flavors are intensely hoppy and bitter, almost to the point of being excessively astringent. Grapefruit and bitter orange tip the scales in their direction, with toffee and caramel struggling to keep pace on the other end. Medium-full bodied, the finish is a bit too hot for my liking. I can see this improving with some age, but as it is, this is not one of my favorite barley wines. Needs a re-visit on an older bottle.
