jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2008 Pours light caramel colored, with a small creamy off-white head. Strong aroma of raisin, plum, a bit of citrus, alcohol, and piny hops. Flavor follows the aroma quite well with lightly sweet hints of raisins and citrus fruits upfront, followed by powerful piny/resinous hops, as well as a good dose of warming alcohol. Finishes bitter-sweet, with a resinous and somewhat creamy mouth-feel. Could use just a bit more body to back up the powerful flavors, but overall a nicely balanced beer. tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Mar 20, 2008 This delicious quadrupel evokes raisin, brown sugar, faint plum, and awesomeness. Feel it on the back of my tongue. Yum Juancho (225), Clearwater Beach, Georgia, USA Mar 15, 2008 From a bomber in GA.
Pours copper/orange in color, looks hazy and thick.... and it delivers massive satisfying mouthfeel. Fills your mouth with sweetness and moves you on to citrusy hoppiness and throws in a bit of resin. Good stuff. vadersnightcap (80), Scotland Mar 14, 2008 bottle,
pours dark amber and a little cloudy.
Hops are pretty subdued on the nose where the malt and the alcohol comes through.
Pretty one-dimensional palate with alcohol perhaps a little too apparent, mouthfeel is a little thin.
Nice well rounded finish and at last some hos kick in! lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Mar 13, 2008 pours a caramel color with a one finger fluffy light tan head. aroma is strong caramel malt and pine hops. has a medium to heavy body with descent lacing and good carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but stronger. has a dry hop aftertaste and the alcohol is well hidden. just needs a little less caramel malt and this would be very nice. the pine does grow from the end to the aftertaste and sticks to the tongue for a while. leeburg (147), Juneau, Alaska, USA Mar 8, 2008 Rating this from two nights ago. Nice head but didn’t like the watery brown color. Maybe it was the lighting. Pleasant aroma and an overall drinkable beer, but I agree with some other raters that it doesn’t quite hold up to the better Barley Wines. Most BWs force me to slow down and sip, but not this one, so maybe that’s why this is "dangerously drinkable." RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Mar 7, 2008 Candied pineapple aroma and flavor. Nice balance of sweetness and piney hops. southamptonsam (81), New York, USA Mar 5, 2008 Nothing special. Doesn’t compare with some of the best barleywines but no off-tastes. Not too sweet, pretty well-balanced.
