Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Feb 9, 2008 This is the most beautiful barleywine that I’ve ever had. It just glows in the glass a beautiful rusty amber color with a nice head.
Smells of hops, malt and dark fruit just like any good barleywine should.
Wonderfully smooth taste of sweet roasted malts, dark fruit, hops, hops, hops,....Awesome!!!
I loved this barleywine and rank it up there with Old Ruffian and Bigfoot... yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Feb 5, 2008 Avery Hog Heaven is a rather clear, viscous-looking red ale with a thi, bubbly, elastic off-white head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma is of sweet and sour malt with grass, hay, orange peel and allspice. It is medium-full bodied, smooth and slick. It leaves the mouth a bit dry, almost gritty. It’s a bit sour and quite bitter. Nothing really noteworthy about the flavor. It’s well balanced. jeremytoni (1072), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Feb 4, 2008 From the tap poured dark amber with a fair amount of head. Nice flavor very hoppy for a barleywine, with a quick finish. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 4, 2008 Flaske. Super lækker duft slår dig i møde fra denne let uigennemsigtige klassiske amerikanske barley wine farve øl. Kraftigt humlet selv efter 3 år, men det står godt til den meget søde maltbase. Super øl især imponerende at der stadig er sådan et punch efter 3 år. ToadiusJ (8), USA does not count Feb 3, 2008 This is an above average barleywine. Very sweet and tasty. Color is amber and gold. Poors a light golden white head. lots of hoppy notes. Almost no lacing. If you like this brewery than this is a beer to have. brewblackhole (1367), Muskego, Wisconsin, USA Feb 3, 2008 Strictly huge piney hops hit the nose, this aroma would do an imperial IPA proud, Taste is heavy citrusy hopping and sweet caramel, mixed in an alcoohol punch. Huge in all respects hopped almost to a fault. If this is a barleywine,so is DFH 120 and Founders Devil Dancer. Can’t put my finger on why I don’t rate this higher. Defintely recommended to all my hophead friends GaltScat (195), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Feb 1, 2008 Nice, transparent color of tobacco smoked cedar with a golden, quickly diminishing head. Hop aromas are strong, almost like dried red cedar cones, but there is an underlying sticky sweetness lingering beneath the bitter hoppiness. Pink grapefruit, plum, and fresh peach notes are detected after the initial hoppy shock. Sweet hops greet the tongue on the first meeting, followed by the quickly fleeting sweet plum and peach notes, which are immediately followed up by a slightly drier hoppiness from the first impression. Long, lingering finish of toasted caramel malts. I will try cellaring this for a couple of years before a retaste, hoping that the hoppy finish will be softened and supplemented by its subtle sweet fruits. jarspag (593), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 30, 2008 Bomber in Pagosa, CO on business. Very pleasant B-Wine. Appearance is not quite a 5 - solid sticky lace! Packed with caramel malt and a zing of grapefruit juicy hops on the back side. In essence, it’s leaning towards the super malty double IPA type barleywine. Still seams a bit raw and could only imagine this with a 2-3 years in nap land. Came off a tad sour on sips which wasn’t too great. Overall, solid brew and def hit the spot.
