RSRIZZO (1346), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Sep 16, 2007 Had this beer on 10/12/1998. Color is a deep golden but quite light for a Barleywine. Carbonation is light as well as the head. Aroma is wonderfully full of the scent of fresh hops. Taste is much lighter than expected for a Barleywine and finish is more like a Pale Ale. It starts off with a medium body and a slightly sweet feel, this goes down with a gentle bite at the back of your throat. The finish is bitter with a light twang to it, there isn’t much hop flavor like you would think from the aroma. I don’t feel its rich enough to be a true Barleywine but it is an interestingly tasty brew. drfabulous (1213), Columbia, Missouri, USA Sep 16, 2007 From memory: not your average barley wine. Very sweet and malty. Yes, of course, barley wines have malty tastes...but I remember this one as having a caramel taste to it. Maybe I’m wrong. andersskov (14), Copenhagen, Denmark Sep 16, 2007 Bottle. Light orange head, thick foam, filtered red colored liquid. The strong aroma of hobs is very much pressent. A little to hobby Barlywine if you ask me. But it’s kind of what the bottle says, Barlywine-style Ale. Rotorhead87 (117), Temple, Texas, USA Sep 14, 2007 This beer was truly aweful. I was so amazingly over-the-top hoppy that I couldn’t drink more than 2 swollows. And it was the good hoppy either, all it had was the bitterness aspect of it. This is what I would imagine chew on raw hop flowers would taste like. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 14, 2007 22 oz. bottle - pours ruby red with strong sugary sweet aromas; flavors don’t quite match the strength of the aromas and it took several sips to get used to the bitter alcohol taste IrishBoy (2686), Bakersfield, California, USA Sep 11, 2007 Older bomber with a plain silver seal and different label than the newer bottle I have which has a different label and seal; Nose of flowery hops, caramel, and raisiny plums; lightly hazed ochre color with a medium beige head that laces nicely; flavor of caramel, raisins, and hop bitterness. Not great but a good BW. Says cellarable for three years and this one is over a year old and still has plenty of hops. hopslovin (180), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 8, 2007 ’06 Bomber. Dark amber/ruby pour with foamy off-white head. Hops, sweet malt, alcohol on the nose. Sweetness, fruit, and carmel in the flavors. Opens up more in the flavor when it warms. Very well balanced for a 100 IBU beer. Sweet/Bitter finish with some added heat. Very nice. Svesse (2601), Hässelby, Sweden Sep 5, 2007 (Bottle, Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 3 Aug 2007) Dark amber colur with ruby notes, frothy off-white head. Fruity, very hoppy nose with grape fruit and pine needles, solid underlying malt. Fruity taste with grapefruit, pine needles, slightly rubbery hints of hops. Very hoppy barley wine with solid malt base and distinct caramel character. Quite brilliant actually.
