Floback (333), Naples, Florida, USA Jun 19, 2007 Updated: Oct 10, 2007Pours dark amber with swirls of white yeast with 3 cm of frothy head. Low carbonation eases the strength of the enormous hop flavor. Huge hops in nose and mouth, like sucking on a hop plant straight from the root. Big flavors of hops, earth, hogs, and grass. Robust bitterness. Medium carbonation and tremendous body. I’ve enjoyed this beer many a time and never tire of it. Amazing brew. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Jun 19, 2007 Great good god....bottled hops. A bit too much for the Dude. But I did finish the bomber. Power tool use prohibited. gunhaver (1024), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 18, 2007 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Cloudy caramel-colored beer with very little head. Smells hoppy as hell, and tastes pretty much the same. Not that that’s a bad thing. Pretty darn good in fact. The 9.2% alcohol is hardly noticeable, so watch out. Very fine beer. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Jun 18, 2007 Bottle. Pours a deep amber colour. Aroma of hops indeed, good frutiness, quite sweet and piney. The flavour is sweet with a good hoppiness, fruity, toasted malt, caramel and alcohol. Bitter-sweet finish. JonR888710 (999), Cochabamba, Bolivia Jun 13, 2007 Pours a dark brown, with a sparse yellowed head. Smell is rich pit fruit, caramel, toffee, pineapple and alcohol. Taste is suprisingly low on alcohol for a barley wine. Just more of the asaid pineapple, along with apples, lemon and toffee/caramel malt. God barley wine, probably about 75th percentile for Barleywines. Good. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jun 12, 2007 Hazy copper with an almond coloured creamy head generating nice lace. Grassy resinous hop aroma with sweet toffee. Sweet toffee palate generously supported by a hoppy bite, Sweet but not cloying, very enjoyable. Thanks Tyler Durden! robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jun 12, 2007 Updated: Sep 5, 2007(bought on vacation in Seattle, WA) Pours extremely clear. Must really filter this stuff! Nice foamy head. No aroma that I can pick out whatsoever which is funny since they say they dry hop it. While hoppyness is there its not overwhelming. Does come out on the palate in the aftertaste. Body is a little on the thin side. If and when Avery ever starts selling here in California I’d probably buy it again. As much as I like the king of barleywines, Bigfoot, this beer would be easier to drink on a regular basis. NOTE: Now available at select BevMO in California!!! ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA Jun 7, 2007 Nose of dried fruit & flowers, wheat & alcohol, yeast and a trickle of caramel. Pours a cloudy clover honey with melon highlights. The cascade is decent producing a mostly lasting average off-white creamy head with light lace. Warmth and sweetness of malt and alcohol abound in the flavor. Light acidic middle and grainy finish of light floral bitterness. The medium body is creamy and soft, the finish feels alcoholic.
