caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands May 8, 2007 Clear amber color, medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet, very hoppy, quite fruity, pine, maply syrup probably, blossom. Quite bitter taste, sweet bitter, toffee, some bubblegum, bit alcohol. Slight alcoholic aftertaste, bittersweet. Unusual beer. badlizard (2324), Berkeley, California, USA May 4, 2007 Updated: Jun 17, 2007Deep copper red with thick foamy head. Sweet malty aroma with strong scent of pine and hemp; the aroma is really wonderful. Silk-satin medium bodied palate. Taste commensurate with aroma with additional buttery toffee taste lingering long in the mouth and a very pleasant hoppy after taste; alcohol well masked. Dry finish. AOF (282), Naperville, Illinois, USA May 4, 2007 I was blown away by this one. Dark copper giving way to ruby red colors when held to light. Nose is sweet malts, cascade hops, maple syrup, cinnamon, and artisan bread. Full and sweet in the mouth with medium to lively carbonation. A little bit of everything that is good in beer describes Hog Heaven. I am cellaring four bottles of this and reserve the right to judge a perfect 5 in two to three years. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA May 3, 2007 Bomber, piney hops in my nostrils when the cap was popped, poured a amber with bronze, lots of off-white bubbles on top, good lacing on the glass, lots of sweet malt and citrus hop aroma, reminds me of a IIPA, some vanilla and caramel fragrances, sweet cake fragrance, a balance of hop bitterness and sweet malt flavor, some roasted malt and citrus flavors, a faint brown ale taste, good mouth feel, bitter finish, alcohol sensation is light in the mouth but hidden well, I was expecting more hop bite and malt sweet flavors in this brew, this was a good drink. jonwayne4883 (401), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA May 3, 2007 a good barleywine that could have packed a little more flavor. alcohol hidden quite well on this one. medium dark with enough hop flavor to satisfy. triazolam (1), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA does not count May 3, 2007 A fine barely wine in my books. Drank from a snifter it has a very miniscule head, good lacing, kind of milky and muddy in colour. Extrordinarily malty and carmely. There’s a lingering aftertaste of choclolate and hops. stouby (1931), Holbaek, Denmark May 3, 2007 Bottle at No5.
Amber with a large beige head, good lacings. Aroma heavy malty (vanilla, pines, plum, citris, bitter chocolate) and hoppy. Flavor heavy sweet and bitter, long. Medium/full body, soft carbonated. The alcohol is felt! hayduke (1619), Eureka, California, USA May 2, 2007 From a 22 oz bottle (I love that label) this poured a red to amber with a medium tan head and decent lacing. Nose is floral hops, and mouthfeel is very smooth. Flavors are dominated by the nops with some sweet caramel malts. Finish ls long and slightly bitter. This is amazingly easy to drink and hides the alcohol well. A first rate barley wine.
