Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Apr 14, 2009 Not very thick, but the lack of viscosity is made up for with a flavor that lasts forever, hence the high palate score. One sip will have you mulling it over for 15 minutes at least. It starts out slow but comes in late with tons of malt and hops like a DFH 60 min. Head and lacing also last a long time. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 13, 2009 bottle is 2004 vintage, drank in 2008. pours a cloudy copper with no head. aroma is sweet candied sugar, yeast, dark fruits, and malt. drinks sweet red fruits, dark sugar, and rich sweet malt. finishes sweet with no alcohol thanks to age. this is VERY drinkable with 4 years on it and very tasty. lumpsowers (235), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA Apr 12, 2009 Cloudy, reddish orange pour, no head, some lace. Spicy piny alcohol aroma. Very alcoholic flavor with bitter hops, some low fruitiness and earthiness. Low carbonation, with a spicy piny after. A little bit much for me.
hallinghansen (263), Odense SV, Denmark Apr 9, 2009 Bottle. Clear red/brown body, with a large creamy off-white head.Aroma is candy sugar, hops some dark fruits. Flavor is also candy sugar, hops, dark fruits and alcohol. BeerBunker (607), Burbank, Illinois, USA Apr 6, 2009 22oz bottle. Pours amber with a fluffy off-white head. Lively carbonation. Aroma is of caramel, sugar, rye, dark fruit, and hops. Taste is of hops, sugar, and dark fruit. Has a caramel malt backbone, that almost comes off as dusty and earthy. Has a lot of rye, which I don’t think is a good character for a barley wine. Lingering sugary candy taste. Finish is very hot with a harsh alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is light and smooth. Body is heavy, but easy to drink due to the carbonation. I just found the whole beer kind of muddled. I hoped to warm up to it, but it just never got past mediocre for me. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 4, 2009 Brewed in the USA...... Pours a lite amber color with a small white head and nice lacing. Aroma of candy malts, fruits and caramel. Taste is much of the same with the addition of some spices. The mouthfeel is pleasant and finishes on the dry side. Pretty good barley wine, but a bit on the sweet side. tarheels86 (704), Washington DC, USA Apr 1, 2009 22 oz. Pours a bright, orangish amber with a massive yellow head that leaves behind sheets of lacing. Huge strawberry cheesecake aroma reminiscent of Stone Old Guardian sans citrus hop madness. Taste is similarly strawberry cheesecake with a dry, peppery, caramel malt heavy finish with some bitter orange peel in there too. Very sweet and yummy with the 9% well hidden. Nothing like an imperial IPA in my opinion. I would say that the hop character in this is almost nil compared to other craft barleywines. shawnm213 (884), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2009 Updated: Apr 28, 200922oz bottle at 2nd beer drinking meeting. Great barley wine. think this was the gfs favoriute beer of the night
