This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop lover’s delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel candy-like malt finish. This is a serious beer for serious beer afficionados and it only gets better with age. Cellarable for 3 years.

Avery does a nice bit of work with this one. One day I will think to do this rating business while I am consuming the beverage. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

As far as barleywines are concerned I have a very discerning palate. Avery’s Hog Heaven is a take on it. A plum hue. Lacy head. I can detect the booze but it is not overpowering. It is a bit more malty than I like. With a tinge of sweetness. It is pretty straightforward. Good but not great. I’d like to see the booze hiked up more. Dandy for a cool summer night but definitely not in league with the Alaskan Barleywine.

Bomber pours copper with a one finger head and nice lacing. Aromas of, caramel, citrus, leather and malt. Flavor is mildly sweet with a slight bitter finish. Tasty!

Bomber into a tulip glass. Pours a clear red-orange with a medium tan head which fades into a disc atop the liquid and leaves good lacing. Nose is all hops. Taste is caramel dark malt and dark fruit, but is overpowered by the excessive hopping. This could have been much better if some restraint had been used.

Pours deep red with a lasting white head and spotty lacing. Aroma is dried herbs and orange peel. Taste us honey, chamomile and flowers. Finish is citric and herbal.

Dark Orange with a orange/brown colored head; Mild carbonation and good lacing. Aroma of citrus and dry hops, strong candied caramel malts and toffee sweetness. Flavor possesses a strong caramel maltiness, citrus hops, toffee and a bitter resiny aftertaste. Thick and heavy body and mild carbonation. Delicious!

Bottle. Deep red copper with a thin ring head. Aroma is sweet earthy hops with candied malt in the background. The taste follows the aroma exactly. Dank bitter candy best describes this one. The alcohol lingers on the rich malty palate. This one is slightly on the complex, intense side of the spectrum. If someone wanted a not-quite barley wine, extra hoppy, candied sweet malt sipper this is it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hog Heaven has a wonderful sweet caramel aroma counterbalanced with a pine hop bitter smell. Dark fruits, malt and black licorice are all in play as well. Nearly perfect aroma except for a musty dank smell underneath all the complexity. Looks great; wonderful crimson color with white head. Tastes sweet up front with a sharp hop bitterness afterward. Aftertaste curiously goes back to sweet after bitter. Palate is just ok. Very unique take on the style. When drunk fresh, it’s like a barleywine mixed with an imperial IPA. I aged a bottle; I’m interested in how it will taste with a few years of age.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle. Very hazy, dark amber orange with a 3-finger buff colored head and very good lacing. Aroma of pine, citrus and caramel. Taste of intense toffee and caramel malt amply balanced by piney and citric hops. Full/medium body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a bomber. Big, thick, frothy head that you could float a nickel on. The body is a coppery-cloudy amber with a lot of trailing bubbles. Smells of hops, alcohol, and pine. Very strong barley wine. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
