COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This dangerously drinkable garnet beauty is a hop loverís delight. The intense dry-hop nose and the alcohol content are perfectly balanced for a caramel candy-like malt finish. This is a serious beer for serious beer afficionados and it only gets better with age. Cellarable for 3 years.

Deep amber clear pour with fluffy eggshell head. Good lacing. Dark fruit, malty sweetness, and a mix of mostly earthy and some citrus hops. Super drinkable. Follows a very similar profile to the aroma. Raisin and plum. Mild roastiness and good caramel malt flavor. Hop profile is more citrusy in the flavor with a dry hoppy finish. ---Rated via iPhone

Thereís a fine line between barleywine and double ipa... This is so close to the line itís crazy. I feel like a bit of age would do this some good, because itís extremely hoppy. But in all reality I like it a lot...

Had this on tap. It is very rich, caramely, and creamy. Has an amazing crystal clear dark caramel color. Love it.

On tap at Kamikaze. Not in the mood to drink this as what I waited all day tp drink (Ushitora Brewery) for ran out... 750+tx (820) yen for 200 ml 9.2% an opaque deep orange-brown with a filmy beige head and ok lacing. Definitely a us style Barleywine with a huge dank resinous musty hop bouquet and a little maltiness struggling to get through the hop onslaught. Very sharply carbonated and exceptionally bitter - the taste is like licking a pine cone. Not balanced and not really what I want in a Barleywine. I feel it is more like an imperial IPA or triple IPA, just way too hoppy. Maybe if it warms up itíll improve but at this point I just want to go home... Well i was right, it became slightly more balanced after warming up displaying some malt character but remaining a mistly dank resinous bitter beer. Not at all what I want from a Barleywine...

650 ml. bottle shared by Kraddel during the (Ice) Cider/Perry tasting @ Barely Legal Tasting Room. Thank you! This is clearly some kind of vintage but I cannot find a date on the bottle. It is possible that the Vintage is 2013. Dark amber, little head. Typical oxidized nose, herbal, heavy on herbs, bitter old hops. Taste is bitter oxidized, liquorish, bitter herbal, old hops, oxidized bitter herbal-ness, light toffee, grains. Body is aged. Decent but not stellar.

had Alaskan and Avery Hog Heaven side by side. Neither was a letdown, even though they were opposite ends of the spectrum. Both poured a deep ruby/amber. Alaskan was a touch darker, and both had great frothy head with a vigorous pour, awesome retention. Averyís aroma was definitely hop-heavy, but balanced just enough and was freakin incredible. took a giant inhale before every sip. Ditto for the Alaskan, but this one was all malty sweetness, and a touch of hops. At first, in the aroma and taste, it begged for more time in the cellar, but by the time I got to the end, I just wanted to keep breathing it in. The aromas were the high point for both beers, but the flavor was enjoyable as well...Avery similar to Bigfoot, but better balanced, and Alaskan like a slightly sweeter/less hoppy Old Stock. Alaskan won the battle of the body as it was thick and full, Avery was weaker (9.4) & thinner, but incredibly drinkable for a barleywine. Those who are not hop heads may not like it as much, but while both were great examples of Amercan & English Barleywines respectively, Iíll give a tiny nod to Avery in the head to head, but imagine Alaskan would win in a year as it seemed like the type of beer that would age incredibly well. Fun, fun, fun!" 8/09 - still very good. didnít age quite as well as iíd hoped.

Poured from a 2014 bomber into a pint glass golden reddish orage with a thick off white head. Aroma is sweet grass. Flavor is a superb dry hops with a caramel toffee sweetness that makes you want to savor the taste. Its incredible. Have had on tap at Avery and for past several years. Need to seriously age but unfortunately when I see this brew in the beer vault at home....I have no patience to age.
