4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Moosington (28) - Costa Mesa, California, USA - OCT 3, 2008
22 Ouncer from Hi-Times. I have only had 5-6 in this style, so my assessment might be biased for now. Nice dark copper pour. Nose of caramel, candied fruit, heavy but pleasant hops. Flavor profile is a great balance between the hop charge and the sweet candied fruit and caramel. Extremely consistent with the nose. Finishes sweet, but the hops linger perfectly. As has been mentioned, the 9.2% definitely creeps up on you because you wouldn’t know it even without aging.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 starflyer58 (26) - Norman, Oklahoma, USA - JUL 17, 2007
Aroma: heavy hops, grapefruit, almost grass or flowerish...
Appearance: smaller, creamy head - color of a dark iced tea...
Flavor: intense decent duration hops blanketed in a malty/sweet/soft beginning.
Palate: soft carbonation but more than the Horn Dog I had the other night.. I have to say I like it this way.
Overall: It’s awakening my belief in Barleywine style... my mouth is tingling (high alcohol? hops? am I just tired? it’s tingling nonetheless)
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Firkinpoe (25) - Minot, North Dakota, USA - JAN 21, 2010
Draught at Southpark Tavern, Dayton, OH. Deep amber color. Aroma was massive citrus and floral hops. Is this a barleywine or a IIPA? Taste was more hops, but on the back end was balanced nicely by some sweet malts. Finish was hoppy bitterness. An overall subtle complexity, but an excellent beer that I really enjoyed.

This is a good drinking barleywine ale. Enjoyed hop flavors and the thick body here. Is not overly syrupy as some in this style tend to be. I would drink this again as I definitely enjoyed it.

Wow! Nice kick, but the wonderful flavor hides the alcohol so it kind of sneaks up on you. Nice aroma and complex taste. Nice finish.

Great barley wine. small head, but nice lacing ... definite fruit tones in the finish ... alcohol is well-hidden

Wow, dangerously drinkable is right. One of the best noses i have ever experienced. A tasty, deliciously woody, slightly carmel-like barley wine. Oh so good.

Fruity, hop and citrus aroma. Amber brown with frothy head that quickly dissipates. Grapefruit and malt. Well balanced, go’s down smooth. Good thick mouth feel. Very good overall. drink this bi-weekly.
