Drinks like a sweet candy-IPA. Pink amber pour with a medium white head. Sweet caramel on the palate. Heavy hop flavor.

Bottle. Ruby-orange in hue with a bit of haze in the middle. One finger of pillowy, sticky light tan head sits atop the brew. I know this bottle isn’t as fresh as possible -- those that are have an amazing fresh, grassy hop aroma. Still, this is big and citrusy, with a flash of orange and grapefruit backed up by caramelized sugar cooking on the stove. In the flavor, it’s as smooth as a pale ale, but with noticeable heft and alcohol. Grassy, piney hops lead and grip the tongue with brute strength between sips. The back end has a bit of caramel and some lingering toasted biscuit notes. Medium body, not too heavy. Smooth and bitter. One of my favorite barleywines for its drinkability and perfectly blended flavors.

Bottle pour into goblet. 1/2 inch tan head leaves lasting lacing. Aroma has raisiny, roasty, malty tones. Appearance is hazy red. Taste is medium sweetness, medium bitterness, lightly sour with full body. Texture is creamy and flat. This beer has a nice bitter long finish. A well-balanced barley wine with good hoppiness throughout.

Old rating. Nice hoppy barley wine. Mahogany color. Lots of piney citrus hops over malty caramel base. Decent amount of dark fruit and warming booze. Delicious.

Pours a clear reddish-brown with an average size white head. Wonderful aroma of hops, hops and hops! There’s just enough malt, fruit and yeast in the aroma to balance it out just right. Flavour of hops and malt is also nicely balanced. Medium to full bodied. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Hog Heaven? More like Hop Heaven, amiright? Sorry about that. Okay, so Hog Heaven is my kind of Barleywine. It pours a mouthwatering shade of deep red-brown and has a big, long-lasting head. (Big, long-lasting head? I honestly typed that sentence with a straight face? Huh.) The aroma is stolen by the hops. You get a big noseful of resinous pine. Hops rule the flavor as well. You get some toffee and caramel, but mostly you get whole lot of hoppy bitter goodness. This barleywine takes advantage of its huge malt base by hopping the bejesus out of it. I love the results.

A- Hoppy, caramel, dark fruits.
A- Deep mahogany color, clear liquid, beige head.
T- Very bitter, pine, caramel, dark fruits.
P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish.
O- Holy hop bomb! Did someone mix up my barleywine with a super imperial ipa. This was more bitter than a lot of ipas I’ve had. Just too over bearing for me, I like my barleywines smoother and fruitier not in your face intensely hoppy.

Classic stand up barley wine. Clear mahogany pout with a big frothy off white head. Aroma was fruit cake, candied hops, caramel for days, more cake. Flavors were sweet with nice notes of caramel and citrus forward hops. Plus mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Nice hoppy bitter finish with good citrus notes. Super hoppy Barleywine, good stuff.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Big bottle purchased at Elevated. Consumed in tulip glass. Deep orange, maybe copper. Aroma picks up the hops added near the end of the brewing process. Little bit of a tropical fruit element. Persistent half finger white head. Taste is really interesting conflicting style profiles. Definitely hoppy especially at the finish. Slaps you in the face. The hop resin and bitterness is there in full force. It has some of Belgian malty sweetness and dark fruit, raisin quality at the beginning. Alcohol presence. Starts off soft before giving way to the oily hop resin towards the end. I like the beginning but think the hops are overdone at the end. I guess Hog Purgatory would be a better name in my book.
