~Scent is great! Big grassy grapefruity hops with quite a bit of sweet maltiness as well. Can smell this beer from a distance.
~Very hoppy taste but very quickly balanced with sweet malts. Hops overpower.
~Feel is a bit light. I think it would be better as a ticky thicker beer. Good points for the lasting bitter sweet finish.
~A very delicious beer that has a good amount of alcohol that isn’t tasted. Very well done. doubleo (1121), San Diego, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 26, 2007 Pours a deep brownish red with a very thick and creamy off-white head. Smells of hops and citrus. With a grassy sweetness that follows the citrus. Tastes of hops and smokiness in the front and some fruit, bananas, on the finish. My second favorite BW to Stone OG. Thickish but crisp. Good carbonation, to me carbonation in a BW is key. You could drink alot of it but the high ABV would kill you. jcweaver (65), VA Beach, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 12, 2008 Poured a red-brown color with a medium head from a 22oz bottle. The aroma was quiet hoppy for a barleywine. Flavor was initially malty with a very nice a strong hop finish. This barleywine was very different from most I have had because of it smoothness and strong hop characters. A very good and balanced barleywine. changeup45 (808), Orlando, Florida, USA

The appearance here is a really nice clear ruby copper color topped with a thick fluffy off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy with some fruits and a much less noticeable malty note. Big hoppy flavor, tangy, sweet caramel malts, warming and finishes with some candy-like grapefruit hops. Sour hoppy aftertaste. Overall I found this to be an excellent beer. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 4, 2009 Updated: Feb 5, 2009Pours a copper with a red glow and a lingering off white head. Aroma is very pungent floral and citrus hops. A big presence of plum and other dark fruits. Nice spiciness and some bubble gum and candy sugar sweetness. Flavor starts very sweet with a burst of sugar and licorice along with a zesty burst of grape and pineapple. Finishes with a moderate bitterness from the citrus hops that lingers in the throat. Medium to full body and active carbonation. Very well done and tasty barley wine. Nice balance and only a bit of alcohol comes through despite the abv. Nik925 (305), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2008 Great appearance and aroma! Nice and dry, especially for a barley wine, which also lends towards the great mouthfeel. Extremely well made, lacks the cloying sweetness found in a lot of barley wines. The best barley wine I have had in a long time. aaronbr (59), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Sep 18, 2009 This is my first time trying barleywine, so pardon the fact that I’m learning about the style more than this particular brew in this rating. It has a deep, murky golden color, like a dark IPA. Smells great. Very hoppy, with a lot of interesting complexity on the nose. The difference between this and an IPA are apparent on first taste. A somewhat fruity characteristic blends nicely with a strong hoppiness, and maybe a little caramel and vanilla. It’s a little heavier than most beers I’ve had, but I definitely really like this one. I recommend giving it a shot if you’re into hoppy ales and intense IPAs. arminjewell (229), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2009 Poured deep red with off white head, smells of citrusy and woody hops with a slight malt character. Taste starts out resiny/citrusy hops and then moves into a caramel sweetness with a nice hop bitterness that lingers. Overall definitely more of a DIPA than a barley wine, but a hop head like myself can’t complain! Awesome beer.
