Clear chesnut brown and an ocre head that left lace all the way down the glass. Wet Hop nose with a fair amount of alcohol. I’m used to this brewery being so over the top, but this is a fine flavored Barley Wine, very hoppy, but the alcohol and sweetness more in check. Toasted malt and bitter hoppiness that is very nice.

UPDATED: AUG 15, 2006 Wowie zowie. This is amazing. Totally surpased my expectations. Might be the best barleywine i’ve had. Tons of Columbus hops, good amount of barley. Just tons of flavor and it all is perfect. By far the best Avery product. It was only $4 for a bomber too. what a deal!

A gorgeous rich, deep, orange-copper colour. Sweet cookie dough malt aroma, biscuity, caramel and toffee, some vanilla. Also shows lots of resiny hoppiness with orange-citrus notes. Flavour is very similar to the aroma, sweet sticky malt on the front, cookie dough, caramel and toffee, with a healthy dose of hops, resiny citrus and a nice shot of spicy hops in the finish (cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg). Amazingly well-balanced for such a big beer.

The best barley wine I have had. Very hoppy! The malt character is the perfect compliment to the hops. I love it.

Dark amber with dark cream head. Nice, bright, citrus and carmel and hop scent. Very satisfying malt and hops flavor, a bit sweet, but well balanced with bitter. Alcohol not overly evident. Pleasing finish.

Unlike many barleywines I’ve tried before...really delicate and easy drinking. Seemed even lower than 9.2% at first impression. Would def. drink again...22 oz. portion is nice, too...

bomber into wine glass (for lack of sniffer). Aroma is intense citrus (grapefruit) hops combined with an undertone of malty sweetness. Pours rich wooden amber color with red notes and a creamy head that holds and even laces a wine glass. The flavor starts with a grapefruity hop presence with a thick crystal malt finish that adds sweetness to the hoppy (so much so it is almost sour) finish. Heavy and oily on the palate. Overall: this is a big fresh beer worth trying; I feel that this could just as easily (or more so) be considered a DIPA instead of a Barley Wine.

Pours a hazy copper hue with a nice creamy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and hops, lots of caramel. Flavor is of delicious caramel malts at first with a very hoppy finish for a barley wine! The 100 IBUs really show through. Great combo barley wine/IPA really.

Bomber. Not reallly what I consider a Barleywine, but absolutely delicious medium-bodied hoppy beer! I’m not sure what it should be classified as, but who cares...just sit back and enjoy! Sometimes beers don’t fit into neat classifications, which is a good thing in my book! Great job Adam!

this seems closer to an imperial IPA than barley wine. hoppy malty citrus grapefruit. long bitter finish.
