Some sweet malt flavors, but its mostly pretty dry and hoppy. Long bitter hop finish. Alcohol is pretty well hidden except for the warmth. Dogbrick (2925), Columbus, Ohio, USA

The aroma floodgates were opened from the minute I cracked this one open! Strong hops with barley malt in the background. Very pretty amber hue with a medium beige head and some lacing. Very malty flavor with some caramel. Dry, hoppy finish with alcohol notes. Very good beer that left me with a pleasant buzz. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2002 Updated: Aug 22, 2008the pink label is gross. i’m just trying to get all negativity aside upfront because i feel a rave coming on: this is a fabulous beer, i believe i’ll knight this nectar with a ten for aroma and flavor. prayer, meditation and epiphinal visions have convinced me that god drinks this beverage, or at least all of the various lesser gods do, who were available for comment at this late hour. it’s true my evening began with a couple dos equis at a local mexican dive, so just the contrast may be like switching from archie comix to mark twain. the color is deceptively plain-jane: ruddy amber, light haze, just enough head to keep it from resembling an iced tea. the aroma does to your nose what sandra bullock would do to your other senses if you got too close. i get plum and peach and ponderosa pine, and yet i can still smell an austrian bakery turning out buttery loaves in the background. beautiful caramel sweetness, such a full bodied mouthful that your tonsils have to seek residence elsewhere, an astonishingly well balanced bitterness like a campari liquour. is everyone getting my drift? this is to die for. i’m having a garage sale and moving to boulder tomorrow. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 11, 2004 This is very hoppy. It has a big aroma and a sweet finish. There's a good balance, but it's more of a big IPA than a barleywine. Instead of the essence of a barleywine, it seems to have the flavors of an IPA with just the hint of strength like an I2PA would. As big of a beer as it is, that actually make it an impressive brewing feat. Rockinout (946), Kent, Ohio, USA

Our college tuition may go up every semester and sometimes twice, but our gov Taft did something good here. I thought I’d start with this ale. Medium light bodied with notes of citrus and sweet malts in the aroma. I watched the lacing gracefully dance down the glass. What a trip! I love hops and the 100 IBUs go well here, they are nicely balanced believe it or not. The hops do prevail in the finish. The 9.2% ABV is hidden well. What a nice ale! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 3, 2004 Hoppy aroma. Smells like an IPA; pine & sneakers. Hazy but mostly clear amber body, which is a bit odd for a Bwine. Most of the Bwines I have had are a lot murkier. Small, off-white ehad. Nice, scattered lace and a mostly diminishing head. Wonderful lace. Flavor is also wonderful. Light in body compared to most Bwines. This is more like an IPA. The most pervasive flavor is alcohol. A little salty; could use a little more sweetness. Not overly hoppy. raindog (559), Evansville, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 19, 2003 Amber/light red beer with a medium sized head. It settles but sticks around and leaves nice lacework. Intensely sweet, hoppy(sappy, piney, resiny)aroma is just huge. Mouthfeel is somewhat watery but body is huge. Sharp bitter,sweet-malt flavors lead to a brown sugary, sweet, finish. The hops linger for minutes in the throat. Very drinkable for big beer.I always enjoy this one.
