17thfloor (807), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 4, 2008 [Fresher bottle] Pours a slightly hazy dark red orange with a nice creamy off-white fluff on top. Sweet aroma of piney and citric hops, rich lightly toasted caramel malt, ambrosia/fridge. I must admit this is an excellent american strong, really nice balance. Sweet lightly toasted caramel malts, not overly sticky, toasted or too sweet. Juicy citrus and earthy pine in perfect balance. Very flavorful without being over the top. A bit of cedar. The finish is great too, very clean with the sweetness dropping off quickly and the bitterness hanging around. Medium body, just full enough without being sticky at all, large but very soft carbonation, extremely quaffable. Balance is the key here.

So I will rate this on the merits of the beer and not my personal preference. Brownish pour wtih a big light head. Aroma is very hoppy with some notes of caramel, toffee, and malts. Flavor is full of citrus hops, some pine hops, sweet malt and is carbonated well. A tad expensive, so I dont thing I will be drinking this very much. ceffalo (20), , Texas, USA Nov 29, 2008 Room temperature. Poors a red-gold dark brown color with a thick bubbly head. Aroma is intensely hoppy and somewhat sweet.
Flavor is nice and hoppy. Well done with a slight roasted maltiness. No sense of the alcohol. Lingers on the palate nicely. A good beer without being great.

Pours a slightly hazy amber-orange color producing a fluffy, thick white head. Foam fades out quite a bit leaving a thin coating of swirly islands with some spotty lacing. Nose shows off tons of citrus rind and piney hops with some caramel and toffee notes waffing in the background. Very IPA like in the aroma department here. Palate is full, slick and creamy with a fine carbonation fizz. Flavors are pretty well balanced between the malts and hops for a western US BW. The hoppy citrus and pine flavors do dominate, but there is a nice sweet malty contribution with tastes of melted caramels, toffee and roasted malts. A decent level of warming alcohol comes in at the finish to let you know you’re drinking a hefty brew. Good stuff, but considering the $7.49 price not a great value. jimmack34 (161), Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours hazy amber with soft white head. Smells fruity, malty and tons of floral and piney hops. Tastes strong with rich hops and sweet malts. Hints of fruit, gourmet bread, honey, pine, grass, and flowers balance out into an intensely flavorful brew. Plenty of body that finishes semi dry and leaving you wanting another drink. Warms you up all the way down. Excellent beer. Furseth (1189), Kungälv, Sweden Nov 20, 2008 Bottle: Hazy red colour, with anice head. Aroma of flowers ,dust, caramelly. Flavor is smouth fruity/caramelly/alcu,citric mouth feeling. Medium fruity finish. Werry nice Barley Wine this is.
