nimrod (53), USA May 2, 2008 22oz bottle shared with Illini09 and General66. Slightly translucent amber pour with foamy white head that dissipated quickly. Hoppy, citrus, and toasted caramel aroma. Sweet malt combined with bitter hops that lingers on your palate. Very good barleywine.
scotch4281 (14), Hollywood, Florida, USA Jul 26, 2008 This Barley Wine had a nice tart taste to it. I tasted this beer at a beer convention but I do remember liking it enough that I went to the store and purchased a bottle. Jblauvs (113), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 25, 2008 orange pour, slight head but good lacing. Pure biscuit aroma - sweet malty as well. sweet and syrupy, Very well hidden alcohol, very drinkable. well hopped, not overly sticky like some b-wines. Not a style I usually enjoy, but this is quite good craftycarl21 (120), USA Jul 25, 2008 pours a slightly hazy orange pour, smallish head but excellent lacing. Somewhat subtle aroma of hops, citrus, and biscuit. Flavor is very nice- not overly complex, but a nice sweetness and tang to it, really tasty. One of the smoothest 9+ percent alcohols i’ve ever had, good palate. Really nice barleywine. jvmiller (252), Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, USA Jul 22, 2008 Nice malty body. Smooth, carmally-biscuity taste. Very sweet and rich. This barley is particularly smooth and not as harsh as others I’ve had. The hops are there, and are quite bitter and bitey, but the beer is quite drinkable. One of my new favorite barley wines for sure. Cabeero (3), Thornton, Colorado, USA does not count Jul 21, 2008 This is another great beer from Avery. It is full of big and subtle flavors with a nice hoppy bite. The head is out of control and only gets more ferocious the longer you let the beer warm in the bottle. The flavor also holds up when the beer has had a chance to warm. This brew is full of caramel and citrus with a slight burnt-toasty warmth that mingles nicely with the alcoholic finish. Best of all, if you buy this beer at Old Chicago’s, you get a bomber size bottle for the price of one beer––now that’s hog heaven.
