COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Nose is a strong whiff of citrus, floral hops. Taste isn’t quite as impressive, the hops lose some of their kick and there is a bit of an astringency in the finish. Still good.

Copper orange in appearance with a soapy head. Citrus orange aroma. Taste is basically a fresh toasty malt and bitter citrus. It’s a bit oily on the tounge. Overall, it’s very clean and easy to drink...

Bottle. Amber with a near white head. Low bead. Aroma is as much herbal as citrusy with some meadow elements. Taste has lots of sweetness before pretty big bitterness where pine emerges amongst the other hop aromatics. The bitterness stops the sweetness from playing too much of a role, but it’s still a bit too cleanly sweet for me. Still, a good hoppy beer.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2011 I love this beer. I always go back to it. I’m not ashamed of my rating. Sampled draft in Houston Tx. for a few years. Consistently a marvellous aromatic beer, not citrusy/grapefruit, but with a hint of grappa like floral notes. Excellent, although it is often a challenge to find a beer to follow it.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark, hazy straw color with a medium beige head. The aroma is butterscotch, resin, and faint citrus. The flavor is creamy and sweet up front, but quickly transitions to a strong bitter flavor. The palate is light to medium and astringent with a long, sticky, bitter finish. Overall, a good IPA for hopheads, but not very well balanced or subtle.

12 oz bottle. Dark orange pour with creamy white head. Aroma of caramel, orange peel, some tangerine. Hops trend towards the aforementioned citrus with notes of spruce and herbs. Flavor is quite dependent on caramel malt with spruce, pine, and herbal hops. Hops aren’t the focus of this beer. I get a bit of mint as well. Medium bodied. Basically a middle of the road IPA. Which is fine, nothing to detract from the beer. Just an average IPA.
