COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

On tap at the Avery tasting room. Unfiltered look, with one quarter inch of head. Very tasty, like a 1.5X IPA. IBU 69, grapefruit taste, sweet malt and slight sugar to balance it out. Chinook hops.Declicious hop aroma. Very good IPA. Good drinkability

On tap at the brewery in August 2009. Reviewed from notes. Pours a medium amber-copper color with an off white head that leaves behind a tiny bit of lacing. Nose brings a good amount of citrus rind with a bit of citrus as well. Some amber and caramel malt in the background. Taste lays off the hop presence from the nose, bringing forward more balance and losing some of the nice hop integration that existed in the nose. Feel is medium with slight bitterness. Drinks pretty well and is one of their better non-sour offerings. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-13-2010

On tap at Trappeze in Athens, GA, this familiar brew gave off the rich aroma of hops well before I put it to my nose. Lemon bitterness dominated the relatively thin malt profile, although this eased into a bit more balance with the addition of fried food. A thin head left ample lacing, and this felt just like an ipa should feel: on the edge of sessionable and memorable. Overall, this is too imbalanced to be a favorite - I prefer a bit more sweetness - but is a distinguished and more than adequate American interpretation of the style.

Copper pour with a nice white head. Aroma is hoppy with strong grapefruit notes. Flavor is citrusy with more grapefruit with a sticky, piney middle. Lingering citrus. A bit of caramel. Pretty good.
