COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

This is the first IPA that smelled of cat pee to me. I just couldn’t get past that. The bitterness is medium with some tree type flavors. Pours orang and sparkly but overall thumbs down.

#bbc10 - Rating this beer at the Beer bloggers conference here in beautiful Boulder Colorado. Good golden color, with a thin head and clear as a bell. Bitter hops in the nose with a light malt. Malt was nice build the hops are sharp with a light crisp finish. Interesting finish with a sharp finish from the high carbonation.

Bottle. Pours an amber, clear color with a thin beige head. Aroma is earthy and hoppy. Has a good taste for an IPA, hoppy/grassy with a nice, bitter aftertaste. It doesn’t do much to stand out among many of the finer IPAs out there, but it falls in line with the better of the bunch. This is a very good IPA if that’s your thing, and I can easily recommend it. I’ll definitely be picking up a bottle of it again soon! 6% alcohol.

slightly hazy orange/gold with a fluffy white head. Plenty of floral hops with light malt aroma balances out with it. lots of hop bitterness up front, spicy hop taste, and a sharp finish. Crisp

Pours a golder amber clear color with a little lacing and a small white head. Aroma is pine hops and grass. The taste is unusually smooth and creamy for an ipa. It has a very nice balance of piney hops and a light amount of malt. Very good and easy to drink.

UPDATED: JAN 23, 2011 Bottle. Between golden and copper with an off-white head. Aroma: apricots, tropical fruits, toffee. Taste: toffee, caramel, pineapple, apricot or peach, butter, quite bitter. The finish has grapefruit and pepper. Medium-bodied, lively carbonation. Really nice.

A: The pour is an orange-ish color with about a finger’s worth of white head and some streaks of lacing. S: A good citrus note to the aroma. It’s more of a rind/peel sort of smell, with some piney notes that provide sort of an oily, resinous character to the whole beer. T: Though the nose lead me to believe this would be a very bitter IPA, it was rather controlled in this aspect. Yes, there is a solid bitter pine flavor as well as some grapefruit rind, but it’s not overpowering. A mild malt character, but it’s not really sweet at all. M: The body is medium with a fairly lively carbonation and a bit of bitterness lingering on the tongue. D: This was a decent IPA, but it doesn’t quite stack up with some of the offerings I’ve become accustomed to here in Southern California.
