COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Good IPA. Balanced hop citrus flavors with malt -- not overly anything, just a nicely made enjoyable IPA.

Well this is definately not the Maharaja. A- Nice translucent rich amber body that pours with a 3 finger foamy white head. Great head retention-eventually fades to 1/2 finger and stays with that the whole way down. Lots of lacing is left behind in the glass. S- Many different kinds of hops. Has a grapefruit, floral, and earthy essence to it. T- Lots of smooth citrus-mainly grapefruit-hop flavor upfront with a weak bready malt backbone. Finish has a refreshing floral hop essence to it. Though the initial taste is not bitter whatsoever a somewhat unpleasant hop bitterness lingers on and on with refreshing hints of floral hop flavor. P- High carbonation and medium weight body. Not much else to it. O- This is a great one to drink and has many hop personalities to it. Avery does a nice job at having some hop bitterness but accenting the hop flavor in this IPA. Its not nearly as delicious as the Maharaja but still decent none the less. One that I will probably revisit-definitely worth a try. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-23-2007 04:43:54

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2010 I am re-rating this beer, because along with joes pils, I had to try avery IPA out of a can. This is still one of the best colorado IPAs, and now out of the can, it has escalated to modus contemption. Better aroma and better flavor have put this always great IPA into a new echelon of superiority. Love the can design, and love the chuggability. Avery has done it again.

the best overall ipa i have had. super good on the nose and with an awesome finish. not overpowering on the hops so it is very drinkable (sometimes too drinkable). on draft is best but bottles are just fine too. ask for it!

Avery Brewing IPA Pours light golden with a thin white head and minimal lacing and retention. Aroma of hops, orange peel and slight yeasty funkiness. Flavor is somewhat subdued with a balanced hop note and a refreshing finish. Some citrusy tang there as well. I could drink several of these on a hot summer day and really enjoy myself, and there is something to be said for that. Highly respectable party beer.

On tap at the brewery. Has a nice balance between the hops and the malts. The flavor is bitter and hoppy, and the body is right in the middle. A very tasty IPA.

Serving: Draft at Fireworks. Pours a hazy orange color with a sizeable foamy white head. The nose is potent and full of pineapple and citrus. A hop bomb for sure. The taste is full of pineapple, a little papaya, pine, and slight herbal notes. The malt contributes just a hint of cracker notes. The body is light to medium with a dry, crisp, and bitter finish. The finish is a touch acridic but okay. The carbonation is medium. Overall a very nice IPA with a great nose and great palate. Definitely worth a try.

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2010 Bottle @ Henrik, Bergen. Classic IPA, with a lot of grassy hop flavors with a bit of fruitiness to mellow it out a bit. Bitter all the way from start to finish, but not very characteristic in any way. Good beer, though.
