In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

355ml bottle from The Beer Cellar Rating from January 2014. Hazy orange amber in colour with some good lacing left on the glass. Not overly hopped but still plenty of resinous hop flavour.

Bottle to a flute at PF Changs. Clear golden pour with thick foamy white head lots if lacing. Full of effervescence, very lively. Hop forward aroma, great citrus floral and pine notes. Flavor follows nose with crisp dry finish. Tasty!

Can. Clear gold with a big fluffy white head. Aroma is floral and citrusy hops with something vaguely rubbery. Taste follows suit but ditches the rubbery note and replaces it with a hint of fruity sweetness. Soft mouthfeel and solid carbonation. Really coats the mouth and slightly buttery on the lips. First impression wasn't great but this is actually pretty solid.

Can. Lightly gushing. Cream off-white head. Excellent lacing. Light orange. Aroma is average malt, bread. Heavy hops, flowers, pine, citrus. Body is sticky medium. Bitter finish. Lightly sweet, long flavor duration. A bit salty.

Aromas of earth and bread, with slight citrus. Crystal clear brushes gold with a moderate white head that lingers as small bubbles. Flavor is full, rich malt with moderate low citrus/lemon hops. Finishes crisp. I would prefer more focus on the hops.

Draft. Copper color with a white head. Bitter citrus hop aroma. Lots of citrus flavors like orange and maybe lemon with a light malt background. Medium bitterness leads to a nice clean finish.

Can. Nice fruit nose, orange and lemon, and bit of peach and a touch tropical. Biscuity malt. orange-gold, low head. Sweet and fruity, oranges, peaches, touch of mango. Creamy, nice body. Strong bitterness. Good ipa without taking me anywhere new. Solid, though.

Smells lightly citrusy, lightly malty somewhat grassy. Pours golden, very small white head, moderately carbonated and is clear. Tastes piney, citrus peel, light malt, slightly melony. Mouthfeel is medium body, dry finish, never too astringent, moderate carbonation. A decent beer, not too bitter that you can't taste the hops. There are some nice flavours but is a light on the malt for my liking.

Wittales (635) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - MAY 4, 2014
Appearance was gold with lasting creamy white 2 finger head, rings of lacing. Aromas are soft citrus fruits, pine with some slight malt sweetness. Taste are grapefruit, orange and lemon upfront then malt sweetness in middle with piney finish. Palate was smooth creamy CO2 with medium body, then lasting clean standard citrus and piney finish. A solid IPA but...

This beer is hazy golden yellow with white foamy head. It smells fresh, piney, and citrusy. The taste is citrus, pine, slight fruit and some malt especially as it warms. Definitely a Colorado type ipa, pine, crisp, and clear hops and bitterness with the malt tasty but served more to frame the hops. Lighter in body with a dry finish. Very good clean, crisp ipa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
