COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Pours golden with thin head that left some lacing. Big citrus and pine aroma. Hop flavor most prominent but not overly bitter. Hop flavor lingers. Medium body .

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours an orange body with just a slight haze. Big and thick, cloud-like looking white head that dissipates slowly and remains very lacy. I keep saying this, but the Flying Saucer can make any beer look delectable. Aroma of mild floral and straw hops. Citrusy and semi-sweet malted. Flavor is really nice. Soft and medium palate with a hay like, drying finish. Some light caramels and a big grassy, citrus hop burst throughout. Not very complex, but really nice and abundant hoppiness throughout. Lingers for quite a long time with a clean feel to it. Overall, nothing overwhelming at all, but a very nice hop flavor from beginning to end. Great balance and very much enjoyed. Well done.

Pours hazy golden brown with a fairly thin white head. Aroma is citrusy grapefruit like hops with a bready malt background. Taste is nice and rounded with a malty bitter flavor. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours gold to amber with a smallish white head. Lacing is there. Clear with some decent carbonation. Aroma was on the faint side of where I’d want it for an IPA. Had the usual citrus hops. Flavor is woody at the back of the mouth, sharpt and bitter throughout, grassy and some maltiness as well. Dry in the mouth and it pinches the sides of the tongue.

12 oz bottle from MaltOMeal. Pour is hazed golden, settles nicely with a 1 1/2 inch rocky white head. Falls with pretty lacing. Aroma of faint citrus hops, bright bitterness. Taste is grassy orange citrus hops, slight bitter, mineral toast maltiness behind that, more grassy bitterness in the finish. Nice balance. Palate is medium, grassy dry, mouth coating, tingling carbonation. Nice one, thanks Bill.

12oz Bottle Received this in a recent trade with russpowell, thanks for all the great beer Russ! Avery’s IPA pours with a clear deep golden body and faint but noticeable orange highlights, especially when backlit. The dense cotton white head grew to two fingers and eventually fell to one leaving sticky arched lacing on its way. A few streams of carbonation bubbles work their way to the surface. Each drink leaves behind more sticky lacing. There’s a good deal of earthy citric hoppiness as soon as I take a whiff. Orange and grapefruit dominate although the orange comes out on top. There’s not a whole lot of malt present but what’s there does the job nicely. The malt profile comes across as pale and somewhat cake like. I prefer my IPAs on the hop dominated side of the spectrum and this delivers. The expectations the nose laid down are met and surpassed in the flavor. The pale maltiness is there but the hops are the showcase of this beer. The grapefruit jumps out at me right away with the orange close behind. Finishes with a zesty citric zing and a touch of malty sweetness to keep the hopping from running out of control. This is a very good IPA. The body of this beer really fits well. Medium bodied with a snappy carbonation that keeps things moving quickly. The bitterness is there at first but grows and grows with each sip. A very easy drinking IPA. The citric leanings make it all at once refreshing and bitter. This glass is disappearing very quickly. This is an excellent IPA from Avery. I’ve passed this one up over and over again in favor of seasonals and such. This teaches me to start picking up more of the year round offerings instead of passing them by. Thanks again for a quality IPA Russ. 6/21/08

Draught. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Nose of citrus, floral, resin, caramel. Initial taste of good hop floral character backed by some citrus and caramel. Mid palate to finish with lots of hop character and grainy/bready notes in the background. Head retention was above average. Palate duration was average.

Clear golden pour. Pretty stinky footy aroma mixed with piney hops. Poor malts underlie a nice load of hops, leaving this unbalanced. Clearly this rating goes against the general consensus here, so I may have got a contaminated bottle. I’ll have to try this again.
