In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Pours a bright clear golden yellow with medium/heavy lacing with small one finger head that goes away. Toasted malt with bright grapefruit hope flavor. This one is largely moderate/heavy bitterness that is by no means overwhelming. Medium body, moderate carbonation. Sticky on the palate. Medium/long bitter finish. This really is a great standard IPA. Classic! This could I think is one of the better of the mass produced beers of this class.

Think this beer should be better. Lacked hop aroma but tasted good. 6 pack from beverage world. Two beers last night had no aroma. Maybe it’s me.

UPDATED: AUG 18, 2015 12 oz. can from Louisville Beer Store; some kind of number code on the bottom, but it’s smudged and impossible to read. Aroma: Light to moderate clementine with a cereal and butterscotch malt base. Appearance: Very slightly hazy light copper pour with soft carbonation holding up a foamy white head; the head fades into a thin, slightly bubbly skin. Flavor: Butterscotch and clementine very much in balance up front; malts fall off a little in the second half, and allow for bitterness to creep in; the finish is mostly dry and has a lingering bitterness. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, bitter finish. Overall: Maybe a little old school at this point, but an acceptable IPA. I have the feeling this is probably on the old side; I can only imagine a fresh can would have higher marks.

Can from BCS. Drank straight from the can. Nice big pine and resin aromas with a touch of grapefruit. Taste is more of the same with some nice malty sweetness that comes through. Almost drinks like an Imperial IPA with a sticky sweetness that is present. A little too sweet on the finish although there is solid bitterness throughout.

Can, Consumed at Truck Festival, Steventon, Oxon, Saturday 18th July 2015 Warm gold with a white head. Really quite bitter, some pine resin showing, bittersweet, the bitterness lingers. Very good, in fact really nice. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov14 3.7
