COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours an orange body with just a slight haze. Big and thick, cloud-like looking white head that dissipates slowly and remains very lacy. I keep saying this, but the Flying Saucer can make any beer look delectable. Aroma of mild floral and straw hops. Citrusy and semi-sweet malted. Flavor is really nice. Soft and medium palate with a hay like, drying finish. Some light caramels and a big grassy, citrus hop burst throughout. Not very complex, but really nice and abundant hoppiness throughout. Lingers for quite a long time with a clean feel to it. Overall, nothing overwhelming at all, but a very nice hop flavor from beginning to end. Great balance and very much enjoyed. Well done.

Pale amber body topped by a very nice white creamy head that leaves excellent lacing. Ahh the aroma of Cascades. Grapefruit. Yummy. THe flavor is no surprise given the aroma. It is well balanced and just bitter enough to satisfy. Medium body that is quite smooth. The best of the Avery lot that I have yet had.

Hmm. I had this with high hopes after being really impressed with Mehpistopheles. The IPA just sort of let the air out of me. It wasn’t bad but it was just so...plain. Aroma was pretty weak for an IPA, but when it fails to out perform SNPA somethings wrong. Slightly bitter, some weird funkyness in the nose and very minimal malts. Appearance was dark orange and cloudy. Mouthfeel was medium bodied. Flavors were just off for my tastes. No malt profile, hoppy and that’s really about it. It’s just too unbalanced to receive higher marks.

Pours a prismatic hue of orangish golden with a thin foamy off-white head. Aroma of grapefruit, piney mango skins, and spruce. First taste is slightly metallic, probably because it’s been a while since I’ve had a beer this hoppy. While this beer initially tastes like a hopbomb, it eventually mellows into a nice mix of citric hoppiness, alefruits, with a tangy, slightly dry finish. Mouthfeel is full bodied and resinous with lively carbonation. Definitely a beer that can satisfy my hop cravings.

Bottle. Clear light gold pour. White head. Rich pine and citrus hop nose. Very well balanced, semi-creamy mouthfeel. Taste is citrus, bread, and hop.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2003 Not as hoppy as I expected but very well done. Nice golden color. Chunky lacing. Fruity aroma (citrus, apples), slight notes of perfume with hints of dust. Medium to full bodied. Gentle carbonation. Just enough malt sweetness to hold up the citrusy hops. I like my IPA's like this, strongly aromatic with a bit less emphasis on bitterness.

Poured a clear light orange with a big fluffy off white head. Hoppy, citrusy aroma. Hoppy, piney, citrusy flavor and a bitter finish. Light sweet malts also. Very nice.
