COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

Clear light yellow orange with a nice lasting white head. Floral hop aroma. The flavor is a sharp grapefruit dominated hop oriented thing, with just barely enough body to hold up to it.

Bottle. Pours a pale orange body with big soapy white head. Aroma is of slight hops and a sugar like feel (cereal?), grainy. Taste is slightly bitter with a light mouthfeel. A little off in flavor with a small citrus essence. Decent.

Pours to a light copper and a white soapy head. Pine-citrus aroma. Strong hop taste with a nice bitter-hop finish. Lacking that great mega-hop boldness, but all-around a pretty good IPA.

On tap at the brewery. Has a nice balance between the hops and the malts. The flavor is bitter and hoppy, and the body is right in the middle. A very tasty IPA.

(bottle 6/19/10). Clear copper color. Medium off white head. Moderate citrus and earthy hop aroma. Flavor of the same, with light bitterness. Avg duration. Light bitter finish. Slick texture. Moderate carbonation. Fair lacing.

Had on 8/25/1998. Color is a lightly hazed gold with good carbonation, but a light head. Aroma is full of hops with a slight sour scent in the back. Taste is mild yet bitter. Starting off with a light body the bitterness can be felt right away. It goes down with a flat feel on the back of your mouth. The finish has a light body but a strong bitterness and a fair amount of hop flavor.

Strong aroma of citrus, especially grapefruit, while still in the bottle. That subsided after it was poured, giving way to a floral aroma and grassy smell with hints of citrus. And something else, something earthy, perhaps straw. The flavor was filled with hints of lemon and grapefruit and slightly sweet caramel. Nice dry, bitter aftertaste that isn’t overpowering. Thin to medium body with ample carbonation.
