COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 Re-tasted 5/27/03 Orange color. Medium head. Aroma is citrusy. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are grapefruity and spicy. Hoppy, crisp and clean. A nice IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter. ------- gold color, Large enormous head. Hoppy and slightly malty. There is an off-taste to this beer, overly hopped? Something spoiled? Mouthfeel is full, very hoppy. Finish is crisp. Aftertaste is hoppy and bitter. Need to re-taste, could be a BAD beer.

Bottle (12oz). Slightly hazy gold with an amber tinge, average foamy white head. Lovely resin/spruce/citrus hops, some sweet malt and yeast, but mostly just a nice juice, tangy, acidic hit of hops. Taste is very bitter, the spruce hop character is dominant, it’s acidic almost to the point of being sour, maybe a hint of orange pekoe in there with the malt. Decent body, light carbonation, quite astringent and acidic, but surprisingly quick off the tongue and not as much bitter aftertaste as I thought it would have --- solid, if simple, IPA.

12 oz. bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Golden orange pour with a medium head, good retention and lacing. A sweet malty aroma with leafy hop notes. Very malty IPA, sweet, with lots of bitter hop notes in the finish. Slightly sticky and full bodied.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2008 This is still a decent IPA. Farily light copper color. medium head. The aroma is a little on the light side with orange peel and a little pine. I also detect a little floral note. The taste is thin at first with a little bite of orange peel and some pine. Overall, a nice, relatively light IPA, would be great for a session.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Cellar’s Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours a semi-hazy orange amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin white ring. Aroma of distinct grapefruit and piney hops with a light caramel malt in the background. Taste is typical bitter IPA style with a medium bodied, light carbonation with flavors of grapefruit zest, some multi-grain and caramel malt with a touch of white pepper. Finish has a mild bitterness with a lingering grapefruit aftertaste. It’ll keep the hopheads happy.

Clear golden color, medium white head and a fair amount of lacing. Middle of the road pungent-ness. The aroma is solid Chinook type hops. This beer has the same hop aroma and hop taste profile as Stone’s Arrogant Bastard Ale although maybe toned down just a bit. But this beer does not have the same malt backbone. I taste a slight sweet caramel from lightly roasted malt grains. This is a really tasty IPA. Nice job (again!) Avery.
