4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pobenohne (504) - Northern Liberties, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 8, 2004
On draft at the St Jame’s Tavern in Columbus. Another spectacular IPA: flowery, fruity hops are just oozing from this beer. Delicious.

Bottle 2008. A marvelous IPA! Scent of strong floral tones and powerful hops. Looks dark orangey-yellow with little head. Tastes of hops, hops, hops, with a wonderful malty aftertaste. This is a great IPA, very complex with the hops and malt interacting wonderfully.

12 oz bottle: A dense heavy looking gold beer with a patchy foam head. Head breaks up after awhile but leaves behind messy lacing all down the glass. Aroma is a luscious greeting of grapefruit and citrus like hop to my nose. In the flavor, strong hop with an organic taste. Classic signature of Avery on every respect of this beer. Bitter and metallic, love this IPA, however, i still feel as though i wouldn’t list this beer under my top ten favorite IPA’s.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 AlchemistZ (493) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUN 24, 2005
Resinous, citrusy, piney, grapefruit aroma. Very crisp and upfront aroma. Hop flavor overshadows the malt but the malt exists as a pillow foundation for the American hop flavor. A medium body, no acidity that I would expect from an IPA but rather a solid bitterness and a creamy mouthfeel. One of the more distictive and flavorful American ales around.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Crosling (1861) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2004
UPDATED: MAY 27, 2005 This is a very enjoyable IPA. The color is golden and the head is large at first then dies down. The lace coats the glass well. Very nice looking.
Smells of citrus and passion fruits under a slightly medicinal malt backbone.
The taste is reliable. I definately am getting my hop fix here. Orange and other citrus flavors are very prominent. Clean and crisp but very thin in the mouth. This is a solid IPA.

Bottle. Pale amber colour. White longlasting head. Lots floral hops in the aroma. Crisp dry hoppy flavour with a malty background. It has a nice bitter aftertaste and a little warming too. Very nice IPA.

Bottle, Reuben’s. Are you kiddin’ me? This beer has it all. Great package, great nose and palate, reasonable price. These are the tangibles of a top-notch brew. A bit sweet for an IPA, but harmonious bittering and background malts just spank other efforts.

I’ll just go right out and say it. Not enough hops. An IPA isn’t generally my beer-of-choice, but this is nowhere near Dogfish or Two-hearted. It’s still a good drink and very enjoyable though.
