COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the 1700’s one crafty brewer discovered that a healthy dose of hops and an increased alcohol content perserved his ales during the long voyage to India (as depicted in our label) to quench the thirst of British troops. Today, we tip our hat to that historic innovation by brewing Colorado’s hoppiest pale ale. Avery IPA demands to be poured into your favorite glass to truly appreciate the citrusy, floral bouquet and the rich, malty finish. Brewed by hopheads for hopheads!

A good example of the style. Smells of American hops; citrusy, floral, pine, catbox. Excellent. Very balanced flavor.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2005 This is a beer that might lack some of the cred of many IPAs - it is very sunshine golden in color and the hops are not mind blowing in any way. There is nice aroma of spicy hop. At first this ale seems a tad watery, but as it warms, the richness develops and a sweet flavor balances the generous hops. This is a nice beer, not overpowering, could posibly be a session IPA.

Had this brew in a large bottle. Fresh hoppy nose of citrus, spice, pine, and spruce. Pours a clear medium honey golden. The large tight creamy white head is fully lasting with excellent lacing. The flavor starts warm, toasty and spicy. Acidity level is moderate to heavy with just a flash of sweetness in the middle. The finish is long and fully bitter. The medium dry palate is soft to lively and finishes very astringent. I love this style so it’s not too hard to make me happy with one of these brews.

I really like this beer. When I think of an IPA this is the sort of brew that comes to mind. Pours a dark yellowy color with a lasting white head. Lacing leaves a beautiful even coating down the glass. Hop aroma is prominent, fresh with big citric and pine overtones with just a touch of sweetness. Flavor is intensly hoppy with the malt being ever-so-quiet hidden in the background. You can almost feel the malt back there rather than taste it. Finish is clean and refreshing leaving you ready for another. Wonderful beer and highly underrated IMHO.

Found this one bottled in Sycamore, Illinois. Another great brew from Avery. Somewhat cloudy, dark orange pour with a foamy, off-white head. Complex nose, some grains but mostly floral. Citrus in the taste, some orange and lemon, along with the standard bitterness from hops, roses and raisins. Complex finish. This was a keeper.

Pours a nice clear gold with a lasting white head. Nice hoppy flavor but not too over the top in bitterness. This would be a great session IPA. Thanks Branden for this one.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2006 (1/18/06) Crystal clear golden body with rocky off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, some lemon. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit, light lemon, caramel/cookie. Bitter, but not as much as I remember, though I last had it in the days before IIPAs. Medium body, quite drinkable. Excellent IPA, no letdown despite being a re-rate of one of my first 600 beers. (7/26/02) I know I’m a sucker for brews with big Cascade flavor, but so what! The aroma is strong grapefruit, letting you know what’s on its way. Flavorwise, this baby’s well-balanced, with a healthy malt backbone in support. A fine beer for those who like what it has to offer. (9/4/8/4/16)
